I'd say he has black ancestry. Its not just his voice, it's his beautiful hair and skin too, being darker esp in his younger years. I'd be fascinated the results of a DNA test if he chose to get one. He needs to go on "long lost family" or "who do you think you are". Fascinating brilliant man

This is interesting. I've always suspected that Tom Jones had some African ancestry.

People were saying the same thing about Carol Channing for years, turns out she DID have black ancestry.

MY maternal grandfather looked like Tom Jones with lighter skin and straighter hair. He was a French speaking creole from Louisiana.Because of the strict racial laws and the one drop laws in the state of Louisiana he was classified as a Black person. He was born in 1907.He embraced his heritage with fervor.Its comical looking at the old photos of most of his family. They all look drop dead White. His mother was an octoroon and his father a quadroon.In any part of the state of Louisiana when traveling he dared not try to pass for White so he was treated like a second class citizen in the Jim Crow era. He used to say,imagine being called a n**** by folks who had the same complexion as him or sometimes a darker shade. There definitely was colorism in his family because his parents and other relatives disapproved of his relationship with my darker skinned maternal grandmother. A beautiful darker skinned woman with beautiful hazel eyes because of her own Haitian and French ancestry. Lol.My mother came out a shade lighter than her father. My maternal grandmother used to joke that White women in Louisiana would often look and treat her with contempt but she stopped any White man in his tracks.As her grandson this woman had such a presence and aura of humanity and dignity.Everyone in the family sought out the advice of grandma Celestine. If she had any acting talent with just her presence and charisma, she could have rivaled any great actresses, Black or White,of her day.She was born in 1905.We are one race. The human race.

African DNA is dominant. Anybody with eyes can see that he has African ancestry in his blood: the skin color, the hair texture, the facial features, etc. He was aware of it back in the 60's but was likely too afraid to admit to it. Let's be honest, revealing that information would've been damaging to his career.

Wales has a lot of mixed people due to its ports on west side of Britain...places like Liverpool...Bristol...its pretty obvious...not unknown...anywhere theres a historical port going back way before slavery...right back to Romain Times

I took the Ancestry DNA test Growing up we always heard rumors about having Native American in our family. Turned out we are mostly English, Irish, and 1℅ Greek and Italian :-) no Native American. :-)

There is Roman Black Africans soldiers descendants from Africa in Wales historically. As well as all parts of Europe. Colour of a perfect skin wasn't a issues but it was Roman colonialism. Even having black Roman governor in parts of Europe before Catholic church. Right up to present day. I'm from the UK.

he's welsh! Welsh folks are often 'dusky' looking and the welsh are great singers. Being raised a Christian Gospel influences the voice.

Here's a little history, the Moors were in Spain for 700 hundred years AND occupied the British Isles, just across the way, as well throughout various periods of time. Mr. Jones is from Wales and the Welsh people of old had a olive or almost north African appearance to their skin do to the fact that they were also occupied by the Moors. I would guess Mr. Jones would find he's about 8 to 11% north African.

Tom Tom Tom, you don't need a DNA test!! Black people know other blacks when they see one, even if you had only 1% of black ancestry. Black genes never lie dormant.

People only need to look at young pictures of him to see what race he is and it isn't African or mixed... People are so ignorant, dark hair and curlier hair are normal among Atlantic/Celtic populations, Iberia and so on. The Romans actually compared the Silures tribe in Wales to Spaniards. Those with dark hair like that can often tan easily too, and I expect he uses sunbeds in old age anyway, he seems to have a permanent tan.

At first glance (a couple of minutes ago was my first time seeing him, him singing as a judge on one of the talent singing shows) I immediately thought he was black, especially with the style of music. But, I’ve been giving a long hard look at every one of his features and I honestly cannot say that any of them appear African. He seems to match a certain style of beard pattern somewhat common in the African American population, but that’s it. His hair doesn’t quite reach the same type of curliness. His skin tone really isn’t to unusual for many European populations (for England maybe a bit odd), his nose is straight up European. His skin has aged in a manner visually similar to many African Americans, but that’s sun damage, not genetics. His younger pictures hurt the case more than they help it. To me, it looks like he has an unusual mixture of distinctly European features which, at first glance, comes off as African but really doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

South Wales is an interesting part of the country. A lot of trade came in and out of the ports, and with that different people. I remember going on holiday down past Swansea, to the Mumbles and the Gower. Always fantastic Ice cream and Italian restaurants run by refugees from Mussolini’s Italy. There were also a lot of people of African descent, particularly in Cardiff. My Grandparents were from the valleys, Pontypool and Pontypridd and there is a smattering of Spanish and Arabian in my DNA. Does that make me Spanish or Arabian? It makes me a citizen of the world. Though I do tan well, and I can grow a beard!

Legit I thought he was half black. Only today did it ever occur to me that it wasn't the case.
