Agreed with that. Never experienced Depression or Anxiety to the point of needing medication until Lockdowns happened. Checked myself into a help center for 6 weeks b.c scariest shit I have ever experienced. Hugs for all those that this is their normal day....idk how you do it

Covid helped me tremendously with my anxiety, I don't have to be around people, and when I go out, I can hide my face. It's poetic for me. It's been a period of healing, nobody expects you to show up.

Thank you for being so candid. I have to “fake it” all the time. Hide behind by my smile but I can’t really connect to people. Always worried about what everyone thinks, worried about what they feel and why they can’t see what’s going on like I do. It can be so overwhelming that at times it’s paralyzingly. I go to work, smile and then go home with tears. No one that knows me knows this. They just think I’m busy all the time when I’m not. Anyways I feel you and I also think that’s why I connect so much with Tom. We see the world through different lenses. 💕

"I lived a lot of moments that I probably should have cherished".... That hit different.... looking back at times where I was at events or in situations where everyone was happy, stoked and engaged, and I was in my head freaking out and unable to enjoy it....thats something I think is overlooked with anxiety....its not just that you might stay home and all that...its the times you want to be there, be present and stoked, and instead you suffer in silence putting on a good face and trying to pretend shits good.

FIRST!!! His spoken words are so great....my husband takes medication to help with his anxiety, our kids are very shy and struggle with social anxiety. My coping mechanism is role playing...if I have a job and can serve or lead I'm comfortable but if I walk in cold and have no position or job....I'm very uncomfortable. I don't even like walking up to people I know and jumping into a conversation they are having. I am accused of being a snob or stuck up because of it. I feel this and you.

I feel you man, I have a very simillar case, I'm almost certain its social anxiety, everytime i go out i feel like everyones staring at me even though they're probably not. I have been able to overcome it little by little though by just focusing on not giving a fuck about anyone.

His words, and your story, describes me to a T. My husband was my buffer to the outside world. He was helping me to make strides in overcoming my own issues. Then, he passed unexpectedly almost 3 yrs ago. That sent me into a tailspin. Now, my son drives me whenever I can leave home, but he works and I have to do it on my own. When I force myself to drive, or even just go out my door to the mailbox, sometimes it triggers a full blown panic attack. Most people around me can't fully understand when I decline an invitation, or cancel last minute. I do understand their frustration, and feel badly about it, which only adds to my anxiety. Medication I was on, only numbed me, but did nothing to help resolve issues. Therapy is expensive, and without insurance, even more so. I am getting better, thankfully. But, have quite a ways to go yet. Every day that I get to open my eyes is a blessing, and a new opportunity to overcome. Thank you for sharing your personal story, and Tom's words. It helps more than my words can convey. ❤ Much love and respect sent your way!

This one speaks to my soul as well. Anxiety is awful..the panic, inability to breathe, feeling trapped and suffocating. It makes me angry. Losing control of your thoughts and body. Tom makes you feel you are not alone.

So... not sure this helps... When i was a child i had a bit of a rough step-father, but there are tidbits i look back on and am thankful for what he taught me. I remember vividly one day being berated as we walked into a little country store... "boy, you got to greet people... say hi, say good morning, say how are you doing, say anything, don't just walk around with your head down". i was berated enough that i eventually took it to heart. And so now as an adult... i challenge myself to be socially engaging by the simplest of interactions... a greeting. i've taken it one step further and when i see someone that has a name tag, i figure they took the time to put that tag on (maybe the company they worked for them forced them to) so i'll take the time to greet them by their name. Some people like this and others don't. Some people have said "how do you know my name?" which gets a chuckle as i point to their tag. I'm also from the south where i grew up waving as we pass people by in a vehicle. I have many friends that migrated from the north and they think it's the weirdest thing. And i've noticed the further away from the country and closer to a more populated area you get the less you see people wave back (about one out of ten). But if you have this social anxiety then perhaps just challenge yourself "to work hard" at overcoming it. Little challenges. Every other week, make the trip to the store instead of your wife and challenge yourself to engage one person with a greeting, then two, and so on and so on. it can be a let down when others don't reciprocate but focus on the times its rewarding (glass half full, right?). IDK, you didn't ask for it, but that's my advice. I love what you've done here and hope for the best for you.

I hear you man. The first time I listen to this spoken word of his I said "damn, he is in my head". Self proclaimed hermit, have to have someone with me when I go out in public, and I also feel the "everyone is staring at me" (or what if I just said something that makes someone think ill of me, over thinking in general). I have more good days than I used to but when them bad days finally hit, they can hit hard. I always try to make myself better no matter how slow it seems to go, we are not alone in our struggles. I also can relate, I recently had a long conversation with my Dad talking about my anxiety and depression and trying to understand why I have these thoughts etc and why I prefer to be alone and asking for his thoughts on it...long story short by the end of our talk I was a mess and in my eyes he was an even brighter light in my dark tunnel than ever before, I am extremely blessed to have him in my life and I fully acknowledge that ( I honestly don't think I would still be here if it wasn't for him), but to hear he say that he understands and he's there for me and doesn't pressure me or get frustrated at me helps so much, when I am constantly surrounded by people (especially other relatives) who truly don't understand and always have to voice it......I thank God everyday for my Dad, and for the time I got to spend with my Mom before she passed away. ❤️

This is the song that turned me on to Tom MacDonald and Nova. (Although Novas not in this one) This video hit home as is did 'Church' but I have severe anxiety as well. It sucks a lot. I totally feel your feels. And am here with ya for you. We are fighters. I do take medicine it helps but wish I didn't have to medicate. But. I am blessed I have never had that social anxiety that stopped me from doing anything. I’m terrified of hights but I still climb ladders and ride roller coasters because I won’t let anything control my actions. But I have family members who are just like this. Manic depression runs heavy in my family but I’ve been blessed not to suffer.

Please sir, "IF" you can. Get outside somehow. In some aspect. Do you like nature? May I suggest going on a hike of some sort, with your wife. Even if trails are busy? If you get there early, there won't be many, if any up that early. I wasn't able to leave my house for several years. But once I found nature, I couldn't get enough. But either way, I enjoy watching, and listening to your reviews. I wish you nothing but the best, in overcoming your social anxiety enough to be able to get out and experience the outdoors. It's the best therapy on earth. Just trust me a little

Everyone has some kind of anxiety and it's mostly brought on by worry. Dont worry if people like you ,look at you ,or even talk to you . I think it's their anxiety that causes them to do it . Be yourself ,dont worry about others they're not you . If we all were alike the world would suck even more . My way to answer the on lookers ,is to smile at them. Helps me ,and shows kindness to the world. Worry will kill you if you let it.

Exceptional Thomas! A gem on both sides of the table… You are truly one of the real real reviewer’s, I don’t even look at you as a reviewer Honestly. When you give your overlook on any genre of art, I feel it as much as I feel tom‘s amazing picture painting that he does with his words thanks to you and thanks to Thomas this was quite enjoyable a few minutes, I was wishing it would last a little longer! Wow, I would never have guessed that about you MrLboyd. But alot of us have this problem and we keep it hidden. I'm so shy that I tend to walk my dogs when I won't encounter many passersby, early morning or very late at night. It's funny because my job requires reaching out to people but deep down I'm terribly nervous/anxious. It's interesting when you talk about being in Spain and your photo studio. Life is strange... I spent 20 years in the limelight... mixing musical legends... Spent time with hall of fame people, actors... everything... now... I just prefer to be alone.. with my dogs, go out to the woods .... I spent 20 years in a crush of people and I just don't want that anymore... I'm lucky that I can drive for an hour and really be in the middle of the forest.

I spent 22 years in the Army. I not only Led Soldiers, but got up in front of them to teach. I gave briefings to General Officers and their civilian equivalents. Now days? I want nothing to do with crowds, and if I'm honest, people. I have my incredible wife, my 110lbs German shredder (that I walk in the woods every morning, I literally walk out of my house and into the woods), and my drums (I'm a hobby drummer and collector). I jumped out of airplanes for 17 years, and yet the idea of flying makes me sick. I buried my father in 2011, in San Antonio, and drove back home ( San Antonio to South Central Pennsylvania), that was the last long distance road trip I made. I can BE the "Social Butterfly", but I hate it. It is what it is.

@@JohnGatesIII thank you for service, sir. I'm 45 and have always personally been more comfortable alone though I'm very sociable when it's needed. People, to me, are quite tiring...their motives, agendas, seemingly willful ignorance a lot of the time, often too superficial about what matters most in life, etc. Maybe if I wasn't a born cynic these things wouldn't bother me, but I am what I am. Like yourself and the original commenter, I prefer spending my time in the woods and with my animal companions. I live in the mountains of northeastern Alabama, so I lucked out as far as scenery goes lol I also play drums as a hobby; been in a few bands back in the day but was never especially interested in making a career out of music (too much time away from home for my tastes). Currently without a kit, mine burned in a house fire, but that won't be forever. I'd be interested to know some of your preferred brands regarding drums and accessories. My last kit was a 12-piece (standard 9-piece with 3 roto toms) Pearl Export set that I got when I was 16 instead of getting a car lol Paiste ride, Paiste china, Sabian hi-hats, 3 Sabian crashes, Sabian splash, 2 Zildjian crashes, and a Zildjian Bell ride all mounted on a Gibraltar rack. I was currently using Pearl Eliminator kick drum pedals. I play mostly thrash/death metal, so there's no such thing as having too much 😁

@@evilervcowart6234 it was my honor. I'm 52. I'm sorry to hear your fire. I collect Pearl, so I would tell you to stick with Pearl. I collect 80s and 90s Pearl kits, so I'm not sure what to look for currently. If I were in your position, I would go Used and buy as much kit as possible. Of course there's Ebay and Reverb, but also facebook market place and other avenues to find kits. For thrash/death metal? I would look at the MLX/BLX line from the late 80s. Depending on where you are in Alabama, there's a beautiful MLX kit in FL on ebay, that is local pick up only. It even comes with hardware. It's been listed quite a while, so I'm sure there's some wiggle room in the price. Good luck and keep rocking.

The older I get, the more it seems most of us struggle with social interaction. I have always had a weird social interaction thing.... sometimes sit in the corner quietly hoping to be walked by, or someone comes and just chats with me..... but then sometimes a sort of manic alter-ego that takes the room ... People who see person one think "oh he's quiet", and perhaps, "shy" People who see person two think "this guys crazy" People who have seen both, just probably realize that they are the same person... both a form of shyness or the outworking of social anxiety.... both masks

I have notifications on but never seeing them come up GRRR stupid youtubes. This one has me FEEL because just like you, I'm a photographer, I deal with anxiety, and it's not so bad anymore but when it hits, it hits hard and I don't go out for days. it's not something that just... goes away over time. It ebbs and flows. some days are easier to handle than others. always enjoy your reactions, even if I have to go through your channel to find the ones that I missed.

You said it 💯!! 2020 ruined any shred of ability I had to cope with severe anxiety daily. I try not to leave my house ever. I panic in public. Not bc of this virus but bc of people. I can’t people.

Slowly increasing your exposure to people will help better than medication. Slowly start to open the door when the package comes, than eventually go out and get it, it requires a lot of positive self talk
