I do the same with Breathe Me by Sia (2004). Someone introduced me to it when I was 17. She takes a deep breath and exhales at the beginning of the song, and it relaxes me every single time. For all the likely thousands of times I’ve listened to it over the last 18 years though, I can’t remember the lyrics if the song isn’t playing. Might have something to do with putting it on to be put to sleep.

What a lyric! For us it really reflects mental health and feeling down, whilst your loved ones are trying to keep you positive - We'd love to know what meaning you took from this line? ⭐️

Well, I've got the quote wrong. I corrected 'and' with 'where'. You need to give me another ❤️. I think someone who suffers from depression or other forms of mental illness is like being in a dark abyss. But there needs to be always a glimmer of hope there. And that is where the light is. If you have someone to help you see that light, then you are a very lucky person. Because for someone to stand by you to support you through the illness is actually one of the most hardest things to do. Most people simply don't have any idea what you are going through with the illness unless they've been there themselves. To put up with mood swings, irritability, inertia, and forever doom and gloom of the person with mental illness requires compassion, understanding, and strength on the support person. When I had depression before, my late husband was standing by me. He put up with my tempers, my sloppy appearance, and housework. And sometimes I wasn't even able to have dinner ready for him or I should say, us when he came home from a long day's work. I felt not just the darkness of the illness but the guilt for not being able to do the things I was supposed to do as a wife. And I would pressure him to talk to me, I.e. he talked, and I didn't say anything because I didn't have anything to say. But I need him to talk to distract myself from the unrelenting thoughts that were going roung my head, which I found unbearable and driving me crazy. And I knew all the time he was tired and I was stopping him from resting and sleeping and he still had to go to work the next morning. And I felt guilty about that, too. The alternative for me would be incessantly going round and round the coffeetable to distract myself in the middle of the night while he slept. Another thing I did was to beat my head with my fists because to feel the physical pain was better than to feel the thoughts in my head. Or I would put my hands on my ears and scream. I must be like a mad woman. I knew all the time how draining it was for him. Guilt again. And I am forever grateful for him to stay with me. To this day, I am never certain of the reason why he stays. I mean, I can't farthom how someone can love somebody grappling with that illness. But I don't think he was actually 'equipped' to deal with that, so it must have taken a hugh toil on him. That's why I said not every one could be that support person. But he never left me and never waver to believe I would get better. I still suffer now with bouts of depression but I am on my own now. But I am quite a seasoned sufferer, so I know what I am dealing with. I recently read Dante's Infernal. I can't say I enjoy it because the description of hell is very brutal and violent. But I don't regret reading it because I feel I actually learn something from it. Obviously, this hell, as described in the book, doesn't exist. The book depicts the nine circles of hell, each in descending order, and the lowest one is the furtherest away from God. Each circle is for sinners of each of the Seven Deadly Sins. Contrary to belief, the lowest pit of hell is not of hellfire but is freezing cold. The hellfire one is the level just above this. I refer to the book here because suffering mental illnesses like depression is like going down these levels of hell. Depending on how severe the illness is, then it is equivalent to the level you are in. And you are getting deeper and deeper into darkness all the time. The bottom pit, of course, is the darkest. But the book also said that paradise is just next door to the bottom level of hell. So when you are in the darkest pit, you are actually closest to the light, i.e., paradise. The only way to get to paradise is to go through hell. There is no other way. But it will require the last ounce of strength of yours to push you through to get to the light. I think this perfectly illustrates what mental illness and its healing are like. Another thing I like to say is that the light of the candle is brightest when it is in complete darkness. I mean, the same candlelight doesn't seem so bright in, say, a room with electric light. So, in the darkest dark, there is the brightest light. It is always the paradox. Then, there is the metamorphosis of the butterfly. After a long period of darkness in the pupa, the butterfly finally emerged into the light. I thought that must be one of the most beautiful imagery for one recovering from mental illness. I guess you need to go through fire to get refined. And the Phoenix rises out of the ashes. I am like writing an essay here, but I have been struggling with depression throughout my life, so I guess I have plenty of time to try to make some sense of what I experience. And you ask about my thoughts, which is just like opening the floodgates. Hope my rambling makes some sense to you or whoever that read this comment and may be, dare I say helpful to those who are in supporting role to know what they are dealing with. You do not get this kind of 'knowledge' for short of a better word from any medical textbooks.
