Tom T. Hall died at age 85 on 8-20-21. This song charted about 50 years ago at this time. I had the privilege of meeting him at a fair in 1985. Helluva nice guy. RIP, Storyteller!

A living legend. The people in this audience that are walking around like there's nothing better to do while this old guy plays haven't got a clue what is being played out on stage right here with Tom. "I'd give a hundred dollars" to be sitting in this audience. No, I'd give a lot more than that. This man's music deserves top notch respect.

About a week before this concert, my wife asked me which living artist I'd most like to see play live. It took about 3 seconds to decide on Tom T. Hall. A day or two later she decided to look to see if he was performing anywhere, and found that this tribute show was going on just a few days later! I made some emergency changes to my schedule at work and we were off to the show! It was a wonderful, intimate concert with my favorite songwriter. Discovered Eric Brace & Peter Cooper that night too!

Tom T. Hall, one of the greatest entertainers and song writers of all time. I was very privileged to have met T. in Waco, Texas at the Heart Of Texas Rodeo. I sat with him in his bus and we talked as if we had known each other for years. He was very down to earth, wasn't stuck up. I asked him the origin about some of those songs he sang and wrote, and his reply was, " Personal experience.

I was privileged to see Tom live in Madison, WI many years ago. Must have been in the mid-late 70's. He put on a great show. He is truly someone who cares about people. At least that's how he comes across in the way he talks to you from the stage. He is an all around great entertainer. I once read he couldn't get anybody famous to sing his early songs so he decided, NUTS! I don't sing so good but I'll sing them myself anyway. I think he sings just fine. Beats all that screaming modern music.

What can you say about Tom T except thank you for your talent sir. It seems our country has forgotten the good in people and can only dwell on the hate from our past. Story tellers like Tom T are needed more than ever. He now knows how all this ends, but we still have to endure till our end comes. RIP.

He was one of my favorite artists in the 1970's when I was just a kid. He had so many great songs. My favorite was "I Love". I had that single on a 45 and wore it out. So sad he took his own life. I hope he realized how many people he touched with his music and songwriting talent.

What a great song! I so prefer this version to the released single back in the day. This version is just so pure and simple and beautiful and heartfelt with only his voice and the guitar accompaniment. The older version seems, in comparison, over orchestrated and (to me) the trumpet playing takes away from the beauty and clarity of Hall's wonderful voice. What a poet and master of lyric! And the fact that he is now a much older man gives the underlying themes of mortality and the passing of time and youth so poignant.

With utmost respect to your opinion and Mr. Hall whom I have been a fan of for over 45 years. Hank Williams is in a category of his own. There is no comparison to anyone living or that has passed on with Hank Williams. In any musical field or style. Hank stands alone as the greatest. Just my humble, but long lived and informed opinion. Love Tom T Hall, he is special. Again with utmost respect, Sgt. Mullins
