He is an absolute legend. I recognized him immediately by sound and video in this clip. Love his work with Waits (esp Franks Wild Years), which introduced me to his other work . Another undersung genius and extremely inventive man. I'm sure it was partially genetic (:

Remember watching this when it was broadcast live (Friday early evening). Blew my 17 year old mind then and blows my 55 year old mind now. Thank you for everything inbetween, Tom.

remember this clearly, glued to this whirlwind of vagabond and nicotine on the TV. The end titles started during In the Neighborhood and cut off mid song. The next week Jools said they had unprecedented letters of complaint and they showed the complete song as well as Walking Spanish, which that moment and for ever since is still my favourite song of Tom's. Changed my life those 2 Fridays.

Could 16 shells possibly have been any more jagged? Absolutely brilliant, no idea how the musicians kept any kind of time, but they held that broken train together with string, somehow.

I first heard your music from your Austin City Limits and have to say that your Blue Valentines touched my soul. One of the few albums that I love the entire album. You are a National Treasure. I haven't led an All American life and some of your lyrics resonate with me because of that life. How do you create such spot-on lyrics describing these experiences?
