I have a 2x2 piece of wood the length of my arms, every day I put the stick across my shoulders and rotate 50 times as you have described, then I put a golf ball on the ground and point my hands and stick at the ball as I rotate another 50 times. I have done this for years. I am 75 and can still play like I was 40 or so, shoot my age often. This is the first time I have seen a real golfer do the same drill as me. This may be the best golf tip on youtube, try it for a month you won't believe the difference in your game.

This tip was given me by an old caddie in a far away golf club, he just said " don´t drop your right shoulder" ...bang, never hit my irons better.

Hi Gary, thanks for this video and for your info this so-called The Secret is not "The Secret" as simply Original Golf Fundamental 1 - A Steady Swing Centre, of Dunns' Five Lessons, first published 1922. Furthermore, the real secret - regarding impact (so the No.2 Secret) - is actually Fundamental 12; something the Pros don't teach today. So that is not a secret but instead the now forgotten original golf fundamentals! Hope this clarifies! Ronald Ross

Tom won 70 times in his pro career. 37 of his 39 wins (including all of his 8 majors) on the PGA Tour came prior to his swing change in 1994. The remaining 31 wins came on the Champions Tour, European tour, Asia , Japan, Australia. Of those 31 wins , 17 came before 1994. So 56 wins prior to 1994. 14 wins after 1994. One spectacular performance at age 59 , losing The British Open in a playoff to 36 year old Stewart Cink. Begs the question, did the swing change hurt or help him? I think it helped him save his body , which means it was worth it because you can't compete, let alone almost win a major against the young bucks, if you are hurting. That reverse C was a killer of lower backs.
@wreckim3 жыл бұрын
Agree. Let's not forget that he changed his swing 'mildly'--which to him was a huge change. In fact his swing didn't look that much different. But the pressure on his spine from that R-C swing would have eventually led to back problems.
@jherl83072 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything that you said except that you didn't consider father time creeping in. Watson was 45 in 1994. Regardless of what you do to correct your golf swing sadly you are slip sliding away after 45.

Miller won a bunch with his reverse C but his back was toast. He changed but his swing was never the same.

My question is, as he starts the downswing did he push the right shoulder down, out & around or pull with the left shoulder up & around. DeChambeau talks about pulling with his left lats.

I remember one video where he said he figured out the golf swing by replacing the left shoulder with the right ( from the top) basically what he is saying here

Tom Watson was my 'model' in 1974 when I started playing Golf. As hard as I tried, I could never get close to duplicating his swing. Tom, I still love your style of Golf.

Glad Tom made the change. What a pitiful golfer he was until 1994. [Sarcasm]. Seriously, there's no substitute for talent, and Tom Watson had buckets full. Even great players are always looking to fine-tune their games, no matter how many majors they may have won. This appears to be a tip I can try, as I've always struggled with fat/thin shots and losing the ball to the right, especially with the driver.

I'm an average golfer , low teen HC, I definitely could improve,I'm not able to practice or play much right now , I'm a pretty good athlete, and the important part is I understand the golf swing, now as we all know being smart definitely does make a great golfer but from studying pretty much every graphic in the golf swing I'm starting to feel that the shoulder plane is the most important part of the golf swing to make solid contact, not distance, not direction, but consistency in ball contact, no doubt in my mind! so having the basic knowledge on how to swing and play golf the shoulder plan can definitely set you free, you'll feel like a completely differnt ball striker, Moe Norman used to say, he hit the ball with his trail shoulder in the down swing, I got a grasp on the concept when I improved my shoulder plane, .if anyone takes the time to read this and is struggling with inconsistent ball striking, look into the proper shoulder plane., another visual is Ben Hogans plane of glass thru the upper body, check it out, its in one of his books ! Anyway Thanks for sharing video, very important if you're lacking this part of the golf swing!
