This comedy-drama starring Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith and Bruce Willis explores the mix of ambition, racism, politics and greed in 1980s New York, when being a Master of the Universe defined the very meaning of Wall Street excess and entitlement.
Twenty-five years on, Tom Wolfe reflects on the novel and film, and United States Attorney Preet Bharara offers his view on its continued relevance.

3 years prior to his death. You'd expect him to take his time talking. Enjoyed it though and the story of The Bonfire Of....is a heck of a book. Yes Mr. Wolfe, rest in peace

The novel should be re-adapted, and done right this time.

I feel that we see it 're-adapted' almost daily across the US in real life in our politics, our culture, our criminal justice system, our media. It amazes me how dead-on this book captures the American zeitgeist, the defining spirit of our times.

Talk about a lame intro to a very special, talented author. And why the hell is Bharara on the panel? The host really is torturous. KZfaq has much better Wolfe interviews. And Reverend Bacon was a great character name.

Atrocious lecture host. “Are prosecutions politically motivated?” What do you think!! The other guy was shilling like a character from Tom Wolfe’s book! Canned speech about how the law is “blind” and it doesn’t work that way even though he ceded it may work that way in places. This book was frighteningly accurate. Glaring example on this very stage!

I'm 25 minutes in and ready to bail. Tom Wolfe is brilliant and fascinating. But he's not a great speaker in the way that he's a great writer. The host and Mr. Bharara are dull and self-absorbed. Bharara just pratted on for 5 mins with a sermon about being a good prosecutor - and all he did was state the obvious. He didn't even attempt to tie it to the novel. Why is he there? And the host seems like his only desire is to talk about Occupy Wall Street. He doesn't even blink when Wolfe tells him class-consciousness has never been very strong in America in the past. And Bonfire, despite taking place partly on Wall Street, has nothing to do with financial/white collar crime.
