2 years ago I bought the K440, for about £620 on sale, I love it, being a kayak is narrower but basically the same boat. I bought 2 pairs of NRS vinyl foot braces and that made it even more comfortable. I still have my Itiwit 2 seater (the one you had before). But drop stitch boats are definitely nicer.

Great review. Looks like the next step up from the itiwit. It seems much more substantial than a normal inflatable. Those backpack inflatables are a bit worthless, they are so heavy to wear on your back. My Colorado is agony on the shoulders. Overall looks like a good alternative to a hard canoe if you haven't got the space for it.

Hi, come across your channel because I was thinking about buying a kayak because I like photography and I live in North Norfolk where is plenty of rivers in the waterways to paddle down. I was very impressed so much so I went to the store you suggested and bought a two-man one so if my son wants to come along he can haven’t used it yet. Only got it this week. Thank you for taking the time out to do these reviews. I’m sorry I won’t be subscribing because I’m not a KZfaq by really just found it useful to see about kayaks. Thanks very much for your time.

Definitely better but definitely more expensive. We would recommend the Itiwit all day long as a budget boat to get you out on the water. Funnily enough it's on sale for £199 on Decathlon at the moment. The Tomahawks are really good though. Very happy with ours. 😍

Thanks for this video, watched it first when you released it and now have finally got this canoe after considering a few over the last few months (nearly went for the 3 person Story Kayak which was on a similar offer) - glad I went with this one. Can’t wait to get it out on the water. As you said weren’t many (well English) reviews for this canoe version so this really helped make my final decision 👍🏼 Roll on spring/summer

We don't bother with the bow and stern chambers to be honest. We've found it makes no difference on the water. The Skegs / fins I actually sanded off half a mm from the base so they slide in better. A bit of vaseline helps too. Our's were a pain to get in / out before that and we used to kick them out by using our feet as hammers lol.

Wow! While there's no doubt of it's quality and build (the floor looks really solid) I would like to see how it handles with a couple of barrels of gear in it (I'm sure it will work fine) I think if you knew you were going to use this a lot and possibly go on some multi day trips with Portaging etc, then It's worth the investment but if you probably just go out 3 or 4 times a year, then maybe the Tititwit one. But this looks fantastic, i must say. Thanks for the honest review, as always. Martin.

@GarethZoeWildcamps Жыл бұрын
Thanks, thankfully we've had the canoe out in strong winds a couple of weeks ago and it was as straight as a dye, but yes the wind can effect some more than others depending on hull design and skeg deployment. We mostly paddle in the summer months anyway. Happy with the canoe so far 👍

@@GarethZoeWildcamps Our kayak only had a skeg at the back. Your canoe with a front skeg as well should track better. But the high sides really catch the wind.
@GarethZoeWildcamps

Yeah the front skeg must definitely help because it seemed the same as a solid in the wind. We did have us 2, child and camping kit in the canoe at the time though so having some ballast must help. As a side note you can add additional skegs to any boat (kits available online)

Great video Gareth and Zoe. Really enjoying the channel. I have a question. I’m not sure whether to order the 3 or 2 seater. Most of the time we will kayak as a couple but I’d like to go alone sometimes as well. I see you went for the 3. Is it easy to paddle this on your own (with a kayak paddle I guess)? I’m 6’2”, my partner is a lot shorter. If I grow my hair a bit we’d look just like you two😂. Thanks for your advice. Mark
@GarethZoeWildcamps
@GarethZoeWildcamps Жыл бұрын
As I understand it the 3 man is a canoe and the 1 & 2 are kayaks. This is donated by the Air-K Vs Air-C. I believe the sides are higher on the canoe version so may be more difficult to use a kayak paddle. We 'canoe' when using it so haven't tried to see if the paddle would clear the side walls (hope I'm making sense). So it might be better to go for the Air-K version as that's the kayak version. But apart from that you'd manage fine with just 1 person paddling these as they glide really well through the water.

@GarethZoeWildcamps
@GarethZoeWildcamps 3 ай бұрын
This is the older model. The only difference with ours is the colour scheme and the inflatable seat risers. We tried seat risers and it changed the centre of gravity and made it unstable and we prefer our colour scheme. So win win for us. You might prefer the newer version though. Apart from that they're the same as far as we can tell.

Looking to upgrade from a really budget inflatable and borrowed hard shells. This is one of the options, but also considering the Bluefin Ranger. Is there a huge difference in stability? Or comfort? And of course speed/drag difference? Your experience of the two as a comparison would be really useful please. Thank you.
@GarethZoeWildcamps
@GarethZoeWildcamps 11 ай бұрын
We'd definitely choose the Tomahawk over the Ranger. It just travels through the water much easier. Stability hasn't been an issue for us tbh.

Hi Gareth & Zoe, another brilliant video. I am interested in this one as it looks really sturdy. My son and I are interested in starting to kayak and explore, do you need a licence to use rivers and canals ? Is it expensive ? Many thanks in advance 😉
@GarethZoeWildcamps

Thanks for that 😊. Yes canals you are supposed to have a license from the British canoe association. It's called a waterways licence and costs £47 per year. Lakes in the lake District and anything tidal you don't require a license.

@GarethZoeWildcamps Жыл бұрын
Not sure what to tell you really. We've been in solid canoes and they're even less stable. We would suggest not leaning over the sides and just practice with your balance. It's like riding a bike in some ways I suppose.
@esoel
@esoel 2 ай бұрын
So did you custom order it with the kayak style lower seat rather than the taller wooden canoe seat that seem standard for it? Is that something that needs to be customised at the factory or can it be reconfigured at will if you own both types of seats? Thanks for the review.
@GarethZoeWildcamps
@GarethZoeWildcamps 2 ай бұрын
When we bought ours there was no additional seat options. We noticed the following model had the option for seat risers (an inflatable bolster under the normal seat) so we tried this option of having higher seats. This turned out to be a terrible decision and made the boat feel very unstable. We can only presume that the wooden seats would only be worse (higher center of gravity). We think this is in part to the base of the canoe being perfectly flat (unlike a solid canoe) and the roll axis is not linear like a Canadian canoe for example. Not a problem with the low seats, but the higher you place the seating, the worse the stability becomes. Hope that helps anyway, that was our experience with the set up anyway. Anything else we're happy to answer 👍
@esoel
@esoel 2 ай бұрын
@@GarethZoeWildcamps Thanks, that was really helpful. I really wish there was a way to rent one before buying it. I was drawn to the canoe seats because I thought they might be more comfortable for my wife and daughter, and easier to have a picnic or something, but if it becomes too unstable then there's no point...
@GarethZoeWildcamps
@GarethZoeWildcamps 2 ай бұрын
Yeah it's a strange move for them to make really. I've seen our version still for sale (with the lower seats), may be worth considering. But if you think your wife may struggle with those seats then maybe a solid Canadian canoe may be best. But you lose the convenience of an inflatable then. It's always a compromise isn't it 🤔
