Thanks for what you're doing! I hope this helps someone. I was getting killed by rats last year. They were getting into our pantry, workshop, barn steeling eggs from our chicken coop and in the garden. I watched KZfaq, tried homemade bucket traps, ordered fancy bucket traps, snap traps...etc. caught a few but didn't make a dent in the population. Then I came across a safe, homemade poison. Tried it in the pantry. It actually worked. After 3 days no rats in the pantry. I mixed up a bunch of the stuff and started putting it around our property. Within 3 days no rats, rat damage had stopped. I still keep the stuff around the property and we are doing great. Equal parts of sugar, flower or cornmeal, and Plaster of Paris. Dry mix, inside out of the weather I put it in shallow bowls. Outside I make a container from 2 inch PVC pipe with some 90° elbows so water can't get in but the rats can. Nothing glued, tape in a few places but the top piece is just pushed on so I can easily pull it off to add more of the mix. This stuff really works, safe if something else eats the dead rats it won't hurt them. The rats die a slow enough death that they go home to die. So no bad smell for the year I've been doing this. God bless KZfaq solutions! Thanks to KZfaq I was able to keep my old mower working at least 2 years longer.

Came back to this to comment because I tried a natural solution and after just a couple weeks, it worked!! I told my kids (9 and 7) that I would give them a quarter for each ladybug they found and placed on a plant in the garden, and it worked! I’m so happy for the plants, and the kids made a couple bucks 😂

Love these videos!! So helpful as I learn more and more about gardening. Always look forward to tomato Tuesdays. I planted basil around my tomato plants and so far seems to be working to keep pests at bay. I have about a dozen tomato plants that I started from the seeds in a tomato I bought at the grocery store and ate. Did it just for grins and giggles and was stunned that I now have plants loaded with tomatoes!

Hi Bryan, when I bought my house in country, it was infested with mice and rats. tried traps, but expensive. wouldn't touch the bloody mess after each and after going through a lot, called pest control that uses poison traps spread around the property, toxic to humans and pets. worried the toxic washout after rains going into my well; told only remedy was a CAT, which i got. now no rodents, no snakes, rabbits, bugs, birds in house. An allergy test showed I was allergic to CATS. Never knew because he sleeps on my bed at night, close by, great companion, loves to accompany me to the garden(Catmint plant there)and best companion and friend. Never experience any allergies symptoms except occasional sneezing. He is well worth it.

Great info Brian. Made a note of all the sprays. Received my Neptune’s Harvest tomato & vegetable food yesterday. I have been catching rats because they are attracted to my chicken coops. I have used all sorts of traps. Found the best way to catch them is with a trap called a Ratinator. I bait it with chicken scratch. The traps are expensive but effective. Plus no snap traps to get your fingers in...not that I’ve ever done that. 😊🤣 One tip if you use a ratinator is to put a clip on the entry area before using the basin. Otherwise those smart rats will escape as you are carrying the trap to the basin.

I'm looking forward to planting more varieties this year and having a bounty simply to enjoy, some for canning, and extra for sharing. Last year I had blossom end rot on my tomatoes early on and the leaf mold on my zuchinni at the end of the season. It's good to be armed in advance with knowledge on how to prevent these issues organically... and now I feel confident to have a slightly bigger garden that will be successful. It's very exciting for me! (Just waiting for frost date to pass, now.) These videos are so full of great info for new gardeners like myself, as well as experienced folks picking up new tips. Thank you for your dedication in sharing each Tomato Tuesday! Love the nod to Debbie Downer... hopefully she will stay in quarantine this year! 😂😂😂

Thank you for this video. I noticed small dark beetles on my tomato plants so I started googling tomato pests. I found your video and when you mentioned worm droppings, I went back outside armed with a magnifying glass and realized that those weren't beetles, rather poop. I could see that something was eating the outer stem. I couldn't find the worm (this plant does not have a lot of foliage, but it still wasn't visible). Thanks for your tip of checking for it at night, I came out armed with a flashlight and found a brown worm thingie.

Thanks for the great videos and the effort that you put into them. The best advice was about the black light. I went to the pet store and bought one sold for pet urine detection since I saw evidence of the hornworms but couldn't see them. I didn't want to wait for Amazon delivery so that is an option for those who may be impatient like I was. So far it has detected at least 5 critters before they did very much damage since I was able to find some small ones as well as a big one. I've never heard of this before so I am very thankful you mentioned it. Keep up the great work and thanks again for helping save my tomato plants!

Reference to non-coated aspirin for your aspirin/water solution: you can use coated aspirins if you add them to a pint of warm tap water, shake the closed container and let sit for about an hour. The aspirin powder will break through the coating skin and the skins will float to the top. Remove the skins with a spoon, then add this solution to the remainder of the one gallon of water.

Congratulations on 200K, Brian!!! Well deserved! My property looks like squirrel heaven and we were about ready to put up a solar electric fence to keep them out when my husband passed last year. We tried pepper spray on the tomatoes last year and the squirrels apparently thought it was salsa and loved it! ;) This year I'm scaling back and doing most of my planting in containers and I'm going to try a tip I saw about putting plastic forks (tines up) in the top of the container. Hello, I have a very small garden, in containers. I have 5 large tomato plants all about 5 feet tall and one small one planted very late. I started lossing foliage on them. I found some 4 & 5 inch long hornworms and that was it. A couple days later I found more of their droppings and found another 4 inch long worm I watched your video and ordered a blacklight flash light like you talked about.. I found 9 worms on 5 of the plants tonight (8-28-21). They were in size a half inch to 2.5 inches long. Thank you for this information IT DOES work! I'll go hunting tomorrow night too!!!
