I think that scene was likely inspired by the following excerpt: Arizona Daily Star May 30, 1882 Interview with Virgil Earp "There was something very peculiar about Doc. He was gentlemanly, a good dentist, a friendly man, and yet outside of us boys I don't think he had a friend in the Territory. Tales were told that he had murdered men in different parts of the country; that he had robbed and committed all manner of crimes, and yet when persons were asked how they knew it, they could only admit that it was hearsay, and that nothing of the kind could really be traced up to Doc's account".

@@natalieps2387 right. That’s what made him so deadly. He had a death wish, but he loved Wyatt and was unfailingly loyal to him. As I’m writing this I’m wondering something. There were few witnesses to the gunfight at the OK Corral in real life. No one was sure who it was, but as the four of them walked up to confront Ike Clanton and his cohorts, someone said, “You son of a bitches wanted a fight, now you got one.” I’m wondering if it was Doc that said that. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

A behind the scenes documentary lets you know, no matter how romanticized it may seem, it is very true to life in many ways. Heck, one of Wyatt Earp's descendants was a consultant on the film, many of the extras are re-enactors, and the writer of the movie is an historian. Though some artistic license is taken, it is not so romanticized as one would think.

Fun fact: Doc Holliday didn't die in front of Wyatt. He did die in a medical center. A nurse was in the room when he passed. Yes the line that he says "Damn... This is funny" is a legit line Doc said right before he died. The nurse in the room heard him say it while looking down at his feet. The reason behind the line is that everybody assumed (even Doc) that he would die with his boots on. Him dying without his boots on is what he found funny.

Wyatt Earp said of Doc, "I found him a loyal friend and good company. He was a dentist whom necessity had made a gambler; a gentleman whom disease had made a vagabond; a philosopher whom life had made a caustic wit; a long, lean blonde fellow nearly dead with consumption and at the same time the most skilfull gambler and nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a six-gun I ever knew." This movie has a LOT of historical inaccuracies, but it's one of the best and most entertaining Westerns ever made. Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp film is VERY historically accurate...but it's boring as hell. I would watch Tombstone any day of the week over Wyatt Earp.
@Benfiester

Hmmmm debatable. From my study of both Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday this film got it 80% right in terms of the events themselves. The biggest inaccuracy in Tombstone is the lack of time lapses making it seem like all these events took place within a week.

Wyatt Earp was a real person and a big part of Western history. The gunfight at the OK Corral is legendary and you can visit Tombstone, AZ to see the location and the cemetery. Kurt Russel was in The Thing, in the SciFi movie Stargate, Big Trouble in Little China and was Starlord's father in the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie. He's been with Goldie Hawn since 1983 and actress Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn's daughter) considers Kurt Russell to be her father since he helped raise her.

Hi Ashleigh. Okay so this was based on a true story. Wyatt Earp and his brothers were real, as was Doc Holliday. Doc was a dentist until he became ill and moved west. The big shootout scene was the reenactment of the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral. Most of the story was pretty true to actual events. There is a movie that you have to watch, unless you have already seen it. It is The Sting. Great movie. Great cast of stars. Trust me Ash. I think you just might LOVE it.

The events of the gunfight at the OK corral are remarkably well recorded. This film includes that there was a house burning down, which is why there were so many witnesses in the streets, that the gunfight actually happened in the empty lot beside a photography studio, some distance in front of the OK corral, that some people involved were unarmed, etc. Most of all, that the gunfight was just the beginning.

The Narrator was actor Robert Mitchum, one of the most famous actors of the Golden Age. He was in many Westerns with the likes of John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. The resurgence of the Western genre owes its thanks to Dances with Wolves and Silverado, and it reached its peak with Lonesome Dove.

Yes Wells Fargo was around then. Also those paper collars were around longer too. My Grandfather was born in 1905 and began working for the RR (just a couple hours from Knoxville) when he was just a teenager. He said he and some friends rode the train when they were younger and began shooting Roman candles at each other. One hit one of the paper collars and it caught fire and they all laughed lol
