It has always been a dream of mine to create my own MTB trail spot and I can finally say that it's going ahed! I plan to create a MTB facility full of dirt jump trials, Slopestyle jumps, EMTB trails, training features, wooden kickers, mulch jumps that will hopefully create the dream compound training facility.

You could paint the wood and cover it with sand to give it the grip
@eartharrow6772

Definitely an underated technique but often better to mix glue the sand and paint over

Nice build Tom, good job. But at 9:22 "will it stay grippy when it is dry?" But like one other said, chicken wire will work perfectly when it is wet.

Really nice craftsmanship. Can't tell you how satisfying it is to see treated wood being used, and a level, aaaand a chalkline! Dreams!

A dense wire works great on wooden planks like that. All wooden features have to be covered here in Costa Rica, else it is like black ice 2 weeks into the rainy season. 1-2 layers of chicken wire (the small hole kind) works great. We have a lot of small bridges like that in bike parks and they are all covered with wire, else it becomes completely useless...

Nice to see a more down to earth build on KZfaq. A dream that might actually be possible to achieve for some people not like some of the wealthier youtubers

Unless that ground has been purposfully compacted that flooring is going to sink/shift. Your best option would be to dig the legs into the floor and post-mix them into place (even then it will probably still move a bit). It will be a time consuming process but the lifespan of the floor will be substantially longer.

I totally agree with the resources that will end up rotten I think laying pallets that you filled the gaps would have be better

Not necessarily, if the ground has been like that for at least a year, it won't be sinking much more, if any.

Cool project. Re: grip - Why not wait and see how the wood deck works when wet? Iff’n you do add grip, I vote for the sand additive in a low sheen paint. Also hope to see some trials and balance features added.

I reckon a stairs and ramp on the side would be better than climbing the roll in. But this is epic! Looking forward to the next one

I think if it were me, I would have a ladder, with a simple rope & pulley type arrangement for hoisting the bike up… but, then it is probably slower than walking the ramp with the bike 🤷‍♂️ Maybe an electronic elevator cage 🤔

Looks fantastic but yes I would probably be of the safe side paint it and put sand on it . Or some old carpet better than having a accident on it. And also a other opinion is putting some proper steps on it to get up
@everyhandletaken
@everyhandletaken Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the carpet would hold water, but as a feels people have also suggested, paint with sand or non-slip additive would be a great option. Looks pretty difficult to walk up those narrow treads with the bike, given how steep it is! I would case before I even got on the bike 😂

Great work Tom!!!! I would highly recommend to use some weatherproof application mixed with grit and apply on the wood. Definitely it will be very slippery when it's wet. I have very bad experiences on wet wood bridges. 😅😅

That wood is gonne be like ice iff it is wet.. Maybe it's a great idea to put on there a layer bituum That is like a sort of sanding gritt that has allways grip.. And is wether proof Sorry for my crappy englisch. It's not my own language at least i try ;)

Well done Tom! You’ll get some good life out of that run in, the ground really is solid! Easy enough to shim it out if you get any movement as well 👍🏻 don’t know if you ever did carpentry but you’ve got a good knack for it 😊

I think you need a little pulley set up to pull up the bike. Similar to what brick layers use on scaffolding. Make it a little taller and make it so it can swing inboard. I fear someone is going to have a nasty fall climbing up with the bike.
@everyhandletaken
@everyhandletaken Жыл бұрын
I had this thought too! It would probably be a bit of a slow turnaround if he has some mates riding there as well, being that the platform only has room for 1 rider & you can climb up until the current rider heads down. I’m sure Tom is smarter than me though & I am thinking of problems that don’t exist ☺️

Chicken wire holds dirt and green grime in it makes it very hard to scrub stuff and also holds water were you dont want it, be careful ((edit)as it rots wood)
