Looking for the differences between Apache Tomcat and JBoss by Red Hat? Are you wondering which Java application server you should choose? In this quick tutorial, we will compare and contrast JBoss and Tomcat, show you how these two app servers differ, and provide guidance on which server fits your needs the best.
Both Tomcat and JBoss are great application servers. There are definitely differences, but you really can't go wrong when it comes to choosing between Red Hat and Apache.

Good quick comparison. For those looking to make decisions about "this" or "that" really need to examine their architecture and support picture. If they're a low budget, just need to get going, then Tomcat with Spring Boot (imo) is the way to go. The complex configuration of Wildfly 21+ is enough to make most non-devops run for Tomcat/Spring, imo. Having worked with both over the years, quite often, I would choose modularity and flexibility and ease of configuration over paying extra for the expertise of bodies to maintain a flexible server environment. Seems like AWS and Azure and GCP are doing their best to provide devops-in-a-box and get you up and running quickly. While a good devops is a very valuable person, if you could run a profitable company without one, would you make that decision?

Thanks for the kind words. Trying to be quick and to the point, although it's tough, as these are fairly complex products. Happy Java!

JBoss rocks. Always leaders in the field. Too bad IBM bought them out.
