It is also important to note that you can only spend a maximum of five years on the JET program. With Interac however, you can work for as long as you choose. Whether 1, 5, 10 or 20 years.

I wouldn't recommend working under Interac for any longer than 5 years anyway. If you're working for that long, it'd be better to look for better work under a local private company.

@@NPC_Algernon hii!! Do u think its possible to do that on the get-go like would it be possible to apply from outside to a local private company, i can guess it'll be very hard but i would really like to hv another option if i don't get accepted by jet or interac even tho i don't even want to rely on any of them but yeah...

Great video as usual Tomi but let me clear up a few misconceptions about Interac. Not all ALTS work the full 40hr work week. Some ALTs don't go to school everyday as it depends on the schedules of their assigned schools, but are still paid their full monthly salary. The ALT is on-call but they almost never call you for work so it's a free day off. They don't work anymore than 22 days per month. Full time ALTs work from 8~4 while pt work maybe only till 3:30 ( depends on prefecture and BOE). Interac ALTs salary also differ based on the BOE they are assigned to. The base salary was officially ¥230,000 per month but they regulated it to ¥215,000 to offset August & December which ALTs used to only get 50% &70% respectively. All Interac ALTs get allowances bringing up salary to as much as ¥260,000 per month. Yes, They get 10 vacation days for each year, 5 are pre-planned by the company and the other 5 is free range but also they can be accumulated year after year based on your contract. You don't loose them. Another thing you could've added was that JETs get subsidized apartments while for Interac, it depends on the BOE and if they have teachers housing.

Thanks so much for sharing! I definitely didn't understand the interac salary enough to delve into it this much because all my sources were giving me varying information. Additionally, I didn't mention that JETS get subsidized apartments because not all JETS get it and it's very rare as I do not live in a subsidized apartment and neither do any of the five JETS that live in my vicinity but you are correct some jets do get some subsidized apartments. Thank you so much for watching and sharing! ❤️

Excellent video, thank you very much for putting this together. As an English teacher in Japan for the last 12 years I'd like to remind you all that foreign English teachers are viewed here as disposable workers whose basic labour rights shouldn't be respected. Many schools, BOEs, ekaiwas etc have this view. So please take the initiative to realise if the powers that be are putting your lives at risk by making you teach potential Covid 19 carriers under conditions that would risk you getting infected. Remember, your lives are more important than pleasing unreasonable companies, institutions or individuals. Stay safe everyone.

Its not cheap to go though. Your flat isn't furnished so you'll have to buy some furniture , you still need to pay for food, transport - the transport will be reimbursed but at the end of the month so you'll have to take money for that etc. Theres another youtuber that posted a video on the initial costs and she said you need about $3000-$4000 (us) depending on where you live. Work out the costs properly because they seem to be paying less. You need like +R10 000 for the rent alone for 1 months rent and deposit. Then there's key fees and you'll need internet for like $70 (that's pretty expensive when you convert it to rands). Please work out how much you'll need so you don't end up suffering there 🙏

JET only accepts application once per year. So you'll have to wait between August to November of this year to apply. It is more rigorous than Interac as I applied to both and got through with Interac. I was placed on a waiting list for JET however. If someone decides that they no longer wish to participate in the programme then I will get the opportunity to. I'll go with Interac. All in all I think that's for the best as I'm not sure if I'll get a space on the JET program.

Unfortunately @timmy gabbie is correct. Jet is pretty difficult but if you are interested in applying you would do so through the embassy of japan in Jamaican come September. However, with interac you have to weigh the pros and cons. Even though it may not be the best option ever you might still make more money than you would teaching/working back home

Tomi, I'll be coming to Japan with Interac this August! As a fellow Jamaican who will be living and working in Japan, your videos have made everything seem so easy. Thank you so much!
