Regner Lumber Jack Live Steam Loco - Steaming up and running session

This is my first live steam loco and its a nice little runner, am still new to it all so everything i do on this video is just from what i have read or people have showed me.

In cold state, open the safety valve to fill in water! The fill up valve is for filling under pressure! The difference? Easy: if you fill up in the beginning, an dont open the safety valve, you will set the boiler under air and water pressure, you cant fill it up! And if the safety valve ist removed, to make air comming out by fill up with water, you do not need the filler valve, you can use a funnel ! Than fill up Gas! Than ignite....than (while heatin up) oil everything up.... That is the best way....

Hi thanks for the info, this was my first proper live steam loco and I followed the instructions of the person I bought it of, I'll hopefully get it running sometime next month when I get the garden railway back in commission and I'll follow your advice 👍

I watched your video with interest again. First, a while ago while determining if the Lumber Jack was what I wanted (I like geared locos). Now mine is on the way from the UK! So I just watched with added interest again as soon I will have one to run. Thanks for the video.

A beautiful garden railway you have there, it just goes to show you don’t need lots of space to have an outdoor layout. All the Regner Easy Line locos are simple to operate & because they’re geared, they don’t tend to run away out of control ! A couple of tips, first regarding the cold start spluttering & if you fully open the forward/reverser & then slightly crack open the regulator valve while raising steam, the cylinders will pre heat so you won’t get the hot steam condensing in the cold cylinders on start up. Another tip, after the steaming session & when the loco has zero pressure in the boiler, remove the safety valve (use a rag) this will prevent boiler back pressure & prevent steam oil being sucked back into the boiler, causing oil deposits on the water level gauge. Have a look at videos of my Regner locos if you have time.

Great ... Lovely addition to a garden railway, and as it is real, a far better look and sound to my LGB electronic noise and false smoke!! LOL!! As you were running it solo I guess the wheels are not insulated?

Hi i think they are insulated as ive had another loco run on the line with the steamer in a siding without any problems, i just ran it alone in this video so i could just focus on that, ill include it in a running session video with my lgb locos in a couple of days, i do like the lgb stuff and even the bachmann locos but i have got to admit real steam is nice for the smell and the sound. thanks for watching. Love the video didn’t realise how much it takes to set up a little steamer tbh was expecting there to be more liquids honestly but isn’t as bad. Great video keep them going 😀

this is a great loco for beginners i was abit put of before thinking its alot of work and worried about ruining the model but this one is nice and simple, thanks for watching, am going to do a big running session video soon so keep an eye out. Tom

maybe you will one day Marcus, ive been in my house nearly 8 years and was only last year when i was of work with lockdown and i got the mrs permission i thought id do a little set up round the pond as i already had the g scale stuff stored in the loft from my dads old garden railway which was a pretty decent size.
