Too much time quoting Bruce and not enough time looking at what he did. Tommy is the best JKD guy in the world with insight into the art and where Bruce was taking it more than anyone else. You call yourself a nerd, but you are in no way as qualified as Tommy is to be speaking about what it is If JKD had quality control it wouldn’t be in the mess it is today. Bruce said a lot of things, he changed his mind on things all the time. People keep using Bruce’s quotes out of context, with no reference to the year or place he said it. What Bruce said in 67 doesn’t mean he thought the same way in 73. You know this so don’t come on here with this “Bruce said this, Bruce said that”. It doesn’t matter what he said, what matters is what he did, and what most people are teaching and passing off as JKD is not Bruce’s JKD. Most JKD doesn’t even follow the core principles of JKD that make it work, simplicity and directness. Bruce wanted what he did to have a name. But the reality is he didn’t care to be a teacher, never wanted to be a teacher, and by the 70’s was solely focused on his own martial arts development, that’s the real truth for why he closed his schools. Bruce didn’t want other people to know what he did. He was secretive, this is why he would show people where he was a year ago but not where he was currently at. Inosanto says this, as do others. It’s not far reaching to think he intentionally tried to throw people off and misdirect them somewhere else by saying all these supposed quotes like “JKD is just a name” etc. No, it really isn’t
