Event Details
In the wake of the devastating bush fires in New South Wales, Tommy Emmanuel, the finger pickin' virtuoso will strum his heart out as he headlines Australian Institute of Music's (AIM) special Bushfire Benefit at the Bald Faced Stag Hotel on November 17.
Those super quick fingers regularly earn Australia's two-time Grammy-nominee Tommy Emmanuel the reputation of being one of the best guitarists in the world and now this skillful artist will be joining forces with AIM for bushfire victims.
During this one off event, the mind-blowing musician will be joined by fellow members of the NSW music community including indie rock collective Civilians, bright new things, Belle and the Bone People and four-piece volcanic rock band Cuervo, just to mention a few.
All proceeds will go towards the Salvo's Bushfire Appeal - salvos.org.au

Emmanuel's unique style - he calls it simply "finger style" - is akin to playing a guitar the way a pianist plays a piano. While Tommy has many imitators, few approach his mastery. He even has his own annual guitar festivals, "Tommy Fest," in Newport News, Virginia, Louisville, KY and Dortmund, Germany.
Jazz legend Chet Atkins was one of the first people who inspired Emmanuel to pick up a guitar. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans, and is responsible for declaring Emmanuel a "Certified Guitar Player" - an honour shared by only two other people in the world (Jerry Reed and John Knowles). "I think he's probably the greatest finger-picker in the world today," Atkins said a few months prior to his death in 2001. "He's inventive, fearless and has a flawless sense of rhythm. You can't watch Tommy perform and not feel happy."
"I've spent my whole life from the age of 4 playing music and entertaining people. I never wanted to do anything else," says Emmanuel. "Playing the guitar is much more than a career for me. It's a passion ... my life. The best thing in the world is to make people happy and bring them together through my music. Because I'm touring so much these days, the whole world has become my home."
In his storied career, the Grammy-nominated Emmanuel has set sales records that have yet to be broken and performed alongside hundreds of other musical legends including Chet Atkins, EricClapton, Sir George Martin, Hank Marvin and Joe Walsh. Olivia Newton-John, Al Jarreau and Sheena Easton have also recorded songs written by Emmanuel.
The earliest recorded hit version was by Benny Goodman & His Orchestra. It was recorded February 7, 1940 and released by Columbia Records as catalog number 35391, with the flip side "Fable of the Rose". The Les Paul Trio recorded a version released as V-Disc 540B with a spoken introduction which was issued in November, 1945 by the U.S. War Department. In 1948, bandleader Stan Kenton enjoyed some success with his version of the tune. The recording, with a vocal by June Christy, was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 911 (with the flip side "Willow, Weep for Me") and 15117(with the flip side "Interlude"). It reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on July 9, 1948, its only week on the chart, at #27.

I think he plays it different every time , but has many of the licks and chords practiced for many years and probably keeps developing new ones and keeps practicing and in performance just gets into it and plays how he feels but with some structure envisaged. Hope that makes sense! He is so good , even though he plays so fast you can see and hear what he is doing. :-)

I've watched almost every version of Guitar Boogie by Tommy on YT - and every one is different. I think his music is the projection of the state of his mind with a little help of his fingers and guitar.

I think this is a good example of where immaculate technique produces pure entertainment; something that has been lost in recent times.... cant help but yelp randomly as I watch this roller-coaster display on my headphones. yep, as I suspected... My wife thinks I'm nuts.

Excellent quality on all fronts, thanks for the video! Just one small correction/addition: Tommy doesn't just play Guitar Boogie here, the tune he seamlessly slides into at 4:50 is his original composition Stevie's Blues, dedicated to Stevie Ray Vaughan (obviously with a good deal of improv, but the main melody's definitely Stevie's Blues).

Not his best effort. Lot of redundancy. I think he was fronting for the Sheilas over in the left corner. I never thought Tommy's style really transitioned to full blues acoustic. He's too aggressive.
