Great continuation of the series. Definitely do not see and learn enough about this part of your collection, so I am glad to hear about and see them! Great, as always, Paul!

Hi Anthony, thanks for the very kind comments. I have neglected my Steam Locos for too long, my plan was to have a Steam based layout which it was before I started making videos. After buying my first Piko BR218 the Diesels took over most of my running sessions. I will continue showing the remainder of my Steamers over the following weeks, still plenty waiting. All the best, Paul.👍👍👍

Hi Paul, that large prairie is running like a modern new locomotive, it's an impressive result 👍👏 Your two other prairies are running great too! I like prairies, but my Lima prairie is honestly a little bit to large for my layout. It would be different if it would be H0, but in OO it's huge. By the way, my BR74 also has a derailing front wheel, maybe I should also look for a wheelset with deeper flanges. Again a very interesting video from the beginning to the end, thanks for uploading 🙏👍🙋‍♂️Have a nice Sunday evening 🙋‍♂️ Erik

Hi Erik, My large Praire is the later Hornby model with a modern can motor. It was very easy to fit a new 5 pole motor to get it running like new. The older Triang Hornby versions are not good runners on modern track and have a rough motor. Its a shame your Lima Praire is too big for your layout as the run quite well. I think I used Lima plastic wheels on the front axle of my Bachmann Praire as the wheel flanges are perfect for tight curves. The front guide wheels can be a problem if the flanges are not very deep and also the pressure of the wheels on the tracks can cause derailing. Thanks for the great comments. Cheers, Paul.👍👍👍

Hi Alberto, I am slowly servicing and repairing where needed my Steam Locos. They need to be run more often. Some of my Bachmann Locos are a bit slow to get running normally. Thanks for the great comments. Chow, Paulo.👍👍👍🙏

Hello! Beautiful locomotives, although I am not familiar with the British steamers, yours look so fine... Also a good thing you tell us the difficulties/technical problems, there might always be someone which would benefit from one of these solves. Thanks for the steam show, Paul, have a fine and peaceful evening! / Chris

Hi Chris, Hornby and Bachmann have made some very good Steamers especially in the last 10 years. They do have some problems as every loco has but can be repaired easily now spares are available. I have always tried to show how I have repaired my Locos and hope it can help someone as you say. Thanks for the great comments, have a super week. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏

@@paulvozman842 You are a clever man Paul and can fix anything! I too have a few models that require warming up before they behave themselves,but that's all part of it i guess.Just like leaving them running,going for a cup of tea something always derails !

Hi Michael, I have a few locos that need to run around a while before they settle down. Sometimes when I go down to my work station to make a cuppa a Loco will stall on points or simply stop. Its the same when I make a video, the trains run perfectly until the camera rolls then they decide to play up. I guess we all have camera shy drivers😂. Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul, great running session. I really like the county. I,v got 2 large prairies, an Airfix and a Mainline with the old Airfix motors. They are where the Hornby model came from. I also have a Lima small prairie. Great video, all the best butty. Carl.

Hi Carl, I spent hours on the County some time ago and it paid off as its a grand runner now. I have thought about buying an Aifix Steamer as they had an improved version of the X04 motor and even 5 pole versions. I had no luck with Mainline but they do run well if looked after. The Lima Steamers are also capable of being good runners. Thanks for watching, have a great week. Cheers, Paul.👍👍👍

Some more nice steam locos there Paul, we enjoyed watching again. Now my grandson is back from his scout trip. He is working on a new video it won't be to everyone's taste, it's going to be a rocker with flashing lights and rock , and some trains. I'm not going to stop his creative spirit hopefully it will be good....cheers James 🙂👍

Hi James, I am glad you enjoyed my 3rd part of my Steamers running. More Steamers every Sunday until they have all been shown. It doesnt matter if your Grandsons Video is not to everyones taste,its important you support him and encourage him experimenting with various Railway themes. I hope to see it uploaded. I spent hours with my Grandaughters making models and am building a Ghost ship with my eldest one when she has spare time from university All the best, Paul.👍👍👍

Hi Tim, I always had problems with my GWR Praire until I solved the problems recently. Bachmann Praires are nicely detailed and run well if looked after. They are a good match for speed so double heading is possible as you saw. Have a great week. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏

Hi Paul, they are all top notch performers. I'm pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Bachmann Prairies. Are they the more modern version or the split chassis? The City of Nottingham wind the day though. What a cracking looking loco. Hornby did a good job with these I think. Steven.

Hi Steven, when I first started collecting Locos for my layout around 14 years ago I was not that clued up on the various makes and models. I bought some old Hornby Triang, Mainline and Bachmann Locos that were very poor runners. I soon realised that they did not run well on my code 100 track and were useless for shunting or slow running. They were also rough runners and noisy which I dislike. I no longer own any of these old Locos with the exception of 2 Hornby Jintys fitted with modern wheels and can motors. My Bachmann Praires are the modern versions and the GWR is now running very well after some TLC. The Hornby Large Praire has also been fitted with a 5 pole motor (as in the video) and runs superbly compared to when it was new. One of the reasons I like your videos is how you keep the old Triang/Hornby Locos running so well, the X03/4 motors are a nightmare to get running smoothly and quietly. My City of Nottingham is a superb looking and running Loco, I bought this one and my Merchant Navy the same day some 12 years ago. I have spare motors and gears for them just in case but they are still performing well. More of my Steamers will be run and the videos uploaded on Sundays, still quite a few to show. Thanks for your support and comments. All the best, Paul.👍👍🙏

@paulvozman842 Hi Paul, The Triangs can be a pain on code 100 track, which is why I keep them running on my outer loop. The motors can be tricky to get running quieter. It is usually a vibrating armature axle in the back axle bearing that causes the growl, which can be minimised with a small amount of grease. But sometimes it's just the brushes contacting the commutator and drawing too much power. This can be remedied by checking the windings and freshening up the solder. Sometimes the worm drive might need a slight adjustment too. It can be a prick of a job to do. Sometimes, it's all of the things I've described, along with worn axle bearings in the chassis. The modern stuff is far superior, though you have done some pretty impressive work substituting old motors with more modern 5 poles. The quiet running is beyond comparison. I just wonder if the newer motors could cope with driving the old Triangs. I think the X04 motors have a higher draw as the wheelsets are so much heavier. Steven.
@paulvozman842
@paulvozman842 4 ай бұрын
Hi Steven, I know you managed to get the old X03/4 motors to run quieter by putting grease on the rear bearings the result was very good. Airfix used a 5 pole X0 type motor that was far far better. They were still some available but pricey, a good replacement on a Hornby if you can find them. There are modern motors with mounting plates that are direct replacements on the old Hornby Locos. Take a look at a channel called "00 Bill "he repairs locos and has featured these modern upgrades, they are more than capable of powering the heavier chassis and wheels. Cheers, Paul.
