This is my first cover of a Smile.dk song in quite some time, and it's one I've wanted to make since 2021 (it was on a "To Paint" list I made at the time). The song in question is of course "Tomoe" which, while more obscure than ones like "Butterfly", I still found deserved a cover in its own right. Like many other songs from the Swedish group, this piece utilizes both the major and minor scales to help set the tone throughout its individual sections. While the switches back and forth are relative, they are notable nonetheless.
As a side note, this video has been quite possibly the hardest one to record in this channel's history. This is because, as I found out through the SMP Discord, SMP uses two different synths which, upon launching, generally trail one another by a few frames. This causes noticeable delay between instruments and messes with, among other things, instrument combinations, of which there are many in this arrangement. To partly remedy this, I ended up moving quite a few of the presets, including most the prominently combined ones, to the first 15 channels, which are all under the first synth. This made it much easier for the instrument combinations to be synced upon launching the application. From there, I just had to make sure the instruments on the second synth, as well as the percussion, weren't excessively delayed either. I'm sharing this here to perhaps help whoever may run into similar issues using SMP. I'd also recommend joining their Discord for aforementioned reasons.
As usual, I used SMP's latest version, as well as a custom soundfont file, for this project. I will provide the .sf2 file to whoever requests it in the comments. I also used DaVinci resolve to add the fade effects and flatten the audio to A = 432 Hz. The key switches back and forth between Ab major and F minor, and the BPM is 150. I hope you enjoy.
