God, this is so corny, but I first heard this song back in junior high, and, of course, I was into a girl at the time. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to ask her out as the school year was days away from being over, and I always had trouble gathering my courage in those situations, but this was the song that made me realize I loved her. The feels in this song really does melt my heart. It makes it easier to remember all the shit I had to deal with at that time in my life, and, for a while, this was my coping mechanism. You could say this song literally changed my life for the better. That is how powerful that loop is.

Spike was not romantically in love with Faye, no. The more dominant theme in Cowboy Bebop is essentially studying how people can move on in the world despite facing tragedy after tragedy. We often see Jet, Faye, and Spike ignore things like a woman killing her lover and then being destroyed by a police blockade (ep. 1), a brother who is trying to help cure his sister's blindness but ended up being involved with a gang and ultimately dying (ep. 8), or being forced to kill a patient who is paralyzed that ends up going on a killing spree (ep. 23.) Instead we see these characters focus on trying to do mundane things for a majority of the show; training, smoking, cooking, etc. Essentially getting on with their lives. So it's unusual to see Spike or Jet really get attached to Faye, Ed, or Ein when they're so used to just moving on from both their past and from the brief encounters that their bounties end up taking them. So it certainly could be argued that Faye meant something to Spike. Especially seeing his and Jet's reaction when Faye and Ed left the Bebop in episode 24; frantically eating boiled eggs while "Call Me Call Me" is playing.
