Great video. There's so much in there that's informative about session work. And every time I listen to Tim's approach, I'm impressed with that impeccable aesthetic sense and the admirable restraint he shows as a musician. Although this track ends up sounding very lush and full, each component is very simple. Reminds me of something that Brian Eno said in an interview. Basically the point was that beauty can grow out of the simplest beginnings, even beginnings that seem unpromising.

+brian patrick HMMM let's see I saw slipping them off with one hand and dropping them on a padded table top. BUT, I'm a guitarist and I have a $2K guitar in one hand and a $100 headphones in the other. Yeah I'll do the same thing. Btw if those headphones can't take that motion there, then well, IMO WAY over rated. Read that CHEAP.

LOL> It's Déjà vu all over again! I wrote a paper in high school in the 60's about being a studio cat. My drummers older bro was one. Ended up working in MH & A&D! Still it has been a good life & I spend much of my time now in home studios.

the comments are great...and why Tim is getting paid to play "simple" and the rest are not. First, you hire a respected studio cat for several reasons, one of which is the credit name on the record like hiring Jeff Porcaro or Steve Lukather...you either get that or you dont. Second, easy for you does not sound as flawless as Tim's strumming. Playing to a mic is very different than your bedroom. Third, tuning...Tim does his work fast...another might spend 15 mins and the producer isn't happy...then what? Note how Tim told the producer to turn down and up...you or I would not and then not lock into the pocket because we didnt want to show vulnerability or create conflict...and what if the engineer still didnt turn up the drums loud enough...you gonna ask again? SO many nuances to studio work the novice overlooks with the naive, "I could do THAT?" Not so much...

1) Write banal lyrics 2) Let pretty young girl to mumble them into a microphone and 3) Hire Tim to provide several layers of well crafted aural titillation so that drivers listening to the song don’t fall asleep at the wheel. Tim is a great musician who is able to turn banal millenial drivel into a listenable ditty. You can’t polish a turd but you can hire Tim to embellish it and disguise the turdiness.
