Here I go again spending lots of dollars in the hunt for the elusive TOMY Playrail wind-up Thomas Tank. This time I emptied two vending machines and examine what I have collected. The results will surprise you!
I love this tiny wind-up Thomas series of trains, they are well detailed, fun to play with and have very interesting faces, the emotion of the characters changes between series. There are some really nice pieces to collect, the Dieselworks and Hills with Sheep are excellent and so is HECTOR. In Australia we don't see the full extent of this toy series which is available in Japan in far greater numbers and variety.
The giveaway associated with this video is closed, the winner will be annotated across the prize pool seen in this video. It is aimed at people already trying to collect this difficult to find series of toys.

yes, often the shopping center security guards will watch me when I do this, it can take 10 to 15 mins to pull the toys out. but the strangest look is form the bank teller when I go in and ask for $300 in $2 coins..LOL, they do ask what are you doing and when I tell them the truth that only sets up more questions Yep I'm strange...but proud of it.

as you would know in Japan there is a much expanded range of toys, and often Thomas is set up in a special theme or look, as a serious collector I can't see any value in a near identical 2012 Thomas, yet Percy is amazing...that sad face literally sinks you

interesting, via the Thomas wikia web site it tells a story that Thomas Playrail is available in Japan, UK and Oz. Now I am hearing loads of people from the UK say they have never seen these, and just about everyone in the USA have not seen them...sad because it's a fantastic, yet very expensive small train toy

In this video i had to blu-tac the whole track system down....but I did not reveal this in the video. In the first video I did about TOMY Playrail I certainly pin pointed the track system as a fail as it so easily uncouples. Either blu-tac or glue the whole track down is all I can think of to make it work

That's interesting how they sell characters with different facial expressions - I wish more Thomas lines did that. Although I've always wondered why Annie always gets a surprised face...

Yes one has derpy eyes, and one has a different coupling on the rear but I class them the same because I know these styles of TOMY trains often have different paint / faces on them

Seeing as the majority of pieces in this plarail set consist of characters and locations from Day of the Diesels, the Percy in this set is sad because Thomas is ignoring him in favour of Belle and Flynn who have just arrived on the island.

The 2012 Thomas has a slightly different livery application if you look carefully (The red "L" shape on his sidetanks goes to the top instead of leaving a space)

im at the point now where i just go in hard to find all the series, same with lego minifigures...these days i just buy a whole box of 60 for $300 the dieselworks is a really nice piece, but hard to find

In Japan he is, there is a huge variety of characters in the Japan release of these toys, ,maybe series 5 will reveal all There was a series last year but I did not chase it as all it had was Splatter and Doge as new characters, it was all very similar to what I already had I just wish they would drop the turntables.....there are far too many in the break down from both 2010 and 2012, the track packs in 2012 have a extra piece of track which is nice

I'm pretty sure they never HiT $4 where I live, if they did imagine how expensive that makes this toy...at $4 it's a total rip off considering the way the vending machines are stacked

Wow an amazing collection! These are not even available in my city in the UK :/ They weren't sold for a long time before, although the engines had connecting rods too which seems to be missing on these models

I don't remember exactly, but from what I recall, there's a version of the sheep mountain that has a miniature Boulder from 'Rusty and the Boulder' instead of a sheep. I think it was exclusive to Japan or something, though.

I do try a little bit harder for the Thomas fans, they have been good to me so I will be good to them...but it's sad the dislike trolls are already pulling this video down....thats what it very different these days on youtube, I can remember a much nicer place only a few years back

On my little turntable and table every square is 1cm ( 10mm ) use that to get a scale, in todays Thomas empire I class them as very small considering you rarely see HiT do small Thomas toys these days.

on the aspect of the best items getting put aside that may well happen, from what I am uncovering this sort of activity is very wide spread, finding the wanted characters in these toys is difficult and mighty expensive. but what can we do, as soon as something passes through the hands of a middle man there is always the temptation for that person to take advantage of a situation, in the end everyone wants to make a quick buck, it's a win win for those who have first access to stock

I was just as surprised as Den's face looks when I saw his toy- no wind-up capability? Shame. On the plus side, Den looks great, all the little details are on there are great. I wonder why other toys like the Take-N-Plays don't give alternative faces to their engines that often (unless they are in special boxed-sets, still enjoying that very much, thank you).. Also, there are too many turntables, I agree. Needs more track. This is Thomas after all, not Chuggington!

the worse I have had so far is a 8 month fight to get control back on a video, it related to Christmas lights and it used royalty free music, i'm at the point now where it's too much trouble to use music in a video because the content ID tool picks up far too much royalty free stuff

Fair point! I agree that Percy is a really nice re-make. I do like that they used a classic Diesel face as appose to a CGI era one as well. Such a shame that him and Den weren't fitted with motors. I guess the Chinese factory must be in a recession!

Hi Leo!I Have To Find Them In All Shops And Collect all Of Them. I'm Pleased That There Is Diesel,Den,Stanley,Belle,Hector,And The Dieselworks Building In This Series!! Note:The Faces Are Diffrent.So I Will Be Confused There Faces On Diesel,Den,And Percy's Face's. 2010 Percy Had A Classic Face Because The 2010 Did A Well Job On James,Henry And All Items. So Have A Good Christimas! :)

I only managed to collect 7 of them as they are quite rare in the united states which is disappointing, but on strange thing is that mine have the axle rods and yours don't, another issue is that if I do find one on let's say an online shop they cost around $5 a piece. I hope that I am able to expand because it really is a nice series and this would be an amazing gift for I actually have an enormous Thomas collection. :)

Hector - Heavily Engineered Coal Truck On Rails; his prior name was, "Hopper". He is a U.S. railroad coalcar without front and rear supports, ladders, hand-operated brakes, and other nice things.
