You’ve probably heard by now that recovery days are important, but do you know exactly why they’re so essential? Tonal’s Performance Manager of Applied Sports Science, Christian Hartford, joined us on Tonal Talk for a discussion about the physiology and science of recovery. He shared why those recovery days are essential to your performance gains, and giving you tips to optimize your Tonal training through recovery techniques.
Christian Hartford has been a Sports Performance Coach for over a decade, most recently as the Head of Athletic Performance at USA Beach Volleyball. He worked with the men’s and women’s Olympic teams, most notably the Tokyo Olympic Games Gold Medalists, April Ross, and Alix Klineman. Before his time with USA Beach Volleyball, Christian was a Strength & Conditioning Coach at University of Maryland, Northwestern University, and University of Michigan. Along with his years of experience working with athletes of all ages and sports, Christian has also worked with adult clients to help them achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals.

Wow, fantastic information...yet again! Kate, you do a great job and have well spoken and knowledgeable guests. Much appreciated. As far as Tonal goes, I'm blown away by the dedication and commitment of the people who work there to continue to make this product better than it already is...and it's already great. As a person in his 60's, I would say that this is hands down the best purchase I have ever made. I look forward to using it for a long, long time. My thanks and respect to everyone who is or has been involved to make Tonal what it is!👏👍

Good stuff thank you. I have a question my wife and I are in our 50's and have recently purchased a tonal. My issue is how should I make a 7 day routine? We've worked out over the years and went to gyms or used home equipment. Rest days were easy because we didn't enjoy working out like we have been with tonal or it was inconvenient. Is the recovery mode a good idea to work in once or twice per week with a 7 day routine? We have time before work each day so we're rotating green muscle groups on the app non-stop. I think It has been 10 days now since we took a rest day. The group workout is amazing this is the first time me and the wife have been able to work out together. Typically It's just so annoying swapping weights after or in between sets. Tonal has eliminated that completely making a group workout take the same amount of time as doing it solo. Enough rambling the question is do you have any suggestions for people who have the time and would like to use the tonal 7 days per week? Or do we have to force ourselves to take a day/days off?
