I was asked to restore this old mixer for a subscriber. The subscriber has purchased a few of my other restored Tonka's. This was a fun project to work on. I am always looking for other things besides Tonka's, but I do enjoy restoring these old vehicles. There has been a few hateful comments about the number of Tonka's iv'e worked on. I don't take them personally. There's always that one person who has to be "that guy". LOL! Please feel free to comment anything you want whether it's positive or negative. Cheers! RS

There are dozens of restoration channels that only do Tonka some only do matchstick some tools. Who cares? I enjoy seeing anything turn from trash to treasure. This was a cool one. I do love the vintage heavy equipment Tonka restos the best. Subbed.

nice work as usual. I wonder how many versions used this same basic cab and chassis. It changed some over the years, but I've seen the same basic truck as a wrecker, a pickup, a box truck, a flatbed, and now a cement truck. The grill is mostly what changed over time.

The people with the nasty comments are probably the antique collector's who think restoration ruins the value. I suppose that's true if someone buys it for investment purposes, but they don't seem to understand that your restoring it so kids can safely play with with it. This is my favorite restore to date, I always liked how the drum turned when you pushed the truck, I'm really impressed that you were able to repair the broken teeth.

I remember that truck!!! It was my first Tonka truck and loved it. I gave it to my oldest son and unfortunately after his mom and I divorced, she put a lot of stuff in storage and didn't pay the bill and lost everything, including all of my toys I had as a kid I gave my son. Great work on restoring it!!!!!!!!! You are a master!!!!

Hey Shepherd; if the drum is plastic, here is how to clean it without sanding. Use a number 40 hair cream developer and coat liberally then wrap in plastic wrap and place under a black-light for 24 hours.
@RustyShepherd

Ruth Ann Cutler Hi Ruth! Thanks for the information. I am aware of that whitening method. The only thing is that you use a UV light, not a black light. 👍🏼 RS

Shouldn't the air hose of your sandblaster be attached to the inside front of the cabin? It looks very awkward now. Also, you might damage it while sandblasting...
@RustyShepherd
@RustyShepherd 4 жыл бұрын
Felix Degenaar The air hose is attached to the inside of the cabinet. I installed a quick disconnect through the cabinet wall. The air hose from the compressor connects on the outside and the gun hose connects to the inside. RS

dwayne weber The guy a Harbor Freight is apparently a goober! I’ve used several different media’s. Aluminum oxide works the best for me. It gets everywhere though. Make sure your blasting box is good and tight. I have a wet dry vac hooked up to keep the viewing clear.
