Okay diggers... It was an absolute scorcher this past Summer, but one good thing that came from the seemingly endless days of oppressive heat & zero rainfall was the lowering of the water levels at most of the lakes that surround us... Which gave us an opportunity to access numerous areas that we hadn't been able to in the past. But once we got out to these spots, it was a complete shock to see what was still hiding in the dirt along the newly exposed shoreline caused by the relentless Texas heat.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun Bob, but the heat was definitely no bueno. There were several times we had to call it quits because it was just too damn hot. We could really only hunt when there was some wind blowing our way, otherwise the sun would just bake us to death. Gotta love Texas Summers! 🥵

Thanks Lewis! - Hopefully we didn’t walk over any arrowheads without seeing them. We try to keep an eye out for any ‘pointy rocks’ while we’re out metal detecting, but you never know… They’re easy to miss.🫤

Thanks Jeff! The lake has actually been this low before, but it was many years ago and it didn’t stay down for very long. We’ve been diggin’ all our mid-tones, but most of the time they’re either lead sinkers or pull-tabs. Every now & then, one will be a Buffalo Nickel. But no gold so far. We’ll keep diggin’ it all though!

I am just getting into metal. I live in North Texas. What kind of permits do I have to have?

A lot of the lakes require permits to detect in certain designated areas and some cities may require a permit if you’re detecting on public land or city property. You’d just need to check with your local city officials. Detecting in State Parks is NOT allowed and you can’t detect on private property, unless you have permission from the property owner.

Since it was an older silver coin with the possibility of a low mintage or rare variety, I didn’t wanna rub it because the sand & tiny bits of gravel will scratch the surface which can affect the value.
