Nice! If you figured that our by ear, you're amazing!...Been trying to nail that part for many years with little confidence I had it...now you've proved I was horribly off ;-) Some brilliant composing and technique from Tony Banks - a genius of understated elegance and power.

Thank you for this and your other wonderful videos showing Tony's technique. You are a great teacher and also you play the Genesis parts excellently, with both passion and precision.

Holy cow! Been a Genesis fan for...seems like forever...and I went all wide-eyed while seeing this demo. After years of hearing the music it's amazing to see it being played. Tony was a genius. I'll spend the next few years trying to play this. LOL! Brilliant! Thank you!

Brilliant Doug - made me smile when you put the two hands together - so that's how he did it! Saw the band at Shepherds Bush 2009 - great show as ever - somehow you capture the joy and fun of playing this music.

Absolutely brilliant! How much more has Tony Banks ever permeated people before? Doesn't Tony have quite the reputation of not only being unavailable, but never willing to talk about his technique, anymore?

If i could pull this off, I'd be the most lit dude in the music store. But that hasn't happened yet. Predominantly because my hands appear incapable of following simple instructions from my brain. Stupid bloody fingers! I've put my trust in you two for the last time!!

Find a LLD MIDI file and open it with Print Finale (you can get a one month demo copy) and export to PDF. The combination of that and Doug's tutorial got me there.

Thanks for the reply, i'll have a look at the chords. Probably best to figure the intro bits out myself. Thanks.

Ah, it's actually a lot simpler than it sounds! Although, it's the effect that counts and this cross hand technique is very cool. That Tony Banks is a clever chap...

Doug is there anyway you can mention the rest of the rt handed chords and the lt hand fifths?? During that fast ascending (and descending) arpeggio, it is impossible to figure out what your hands are doing??? Much obliged!!

Doug? Where did you learn all your tony banks stuff? Is there sheet music for all these songs that I can buy? I had to figure all my genesis stuff out by ear! please help me out :)
@santibanks15 жыл бұрын
I find it much easier to play with using the second and third finger of the left hand instead of the second and fourth which you are using. It gives you a bit more space, a bit better sight and you can even clam them underneath your hand to make sure they are not in the way. It's personal and taste of course (in other works, whatever works is good).

@dougmelbourne Very interesting, I'll have to try this out sometime. I hope you do your video on "Cinema Show" and one for "Firth Of Fifth". Tony also has a cross-hand section on "Robbery Assault & Battery" so maybe you'd like the challenge of demonstrating that as well.

By the way, cross-hand technique, while definitely not common, is used in some great piano music (much more complex than this) - for example see here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/idKEh8p7xtuXY4U.html from 2:02 (also appreciating the beauty of the performer).
