Much respect to Tony Jr for being respectful in his talk of Theresa as yes she’s flawed but losing Dale had to be rough especially Daytona. That said I firmly believe Jr motorsport is more DEI than post 2001 Daytona 500 DEI as while the name was there. Dale and his sister have done wonders for the sport bringing up people like Reddick, Elliott and Byron. Even chance 2 had great success.

I completely understand what Tony Jr. says about Theresa going back to the races, especially Daytona. I live 50 minutes away and have been there countless times, but for 20 years I have had mixed feelings that I never had before. I was in attendance in February 2001, stunned at what I saw and heard over the radio scanner. I was there in July of that year, with tears welling in my eyes as the 8 and the 15 sat in the trioval after the race. My God, what could have been........................

Every single fan would and will tell you that we knew Earnhardt Enterprises would never survive without Dale Jr. and it didn’t. It is so extremely sad that Jr., Kelly, Taylor and Kerry didn’t have a fair chance to bond together and keep Dale’s legacy on the track. Teresa could have been the brains behind it if greed hadn’t set in her being. My husband and I would go to at least 5 to 8 races per season including ARCA races. When Earnhardt was killed, we put it all on Jr.! We were their at Daytona when Dale was killed and when Jr. won after Dale was put to rest. I did not see one person, man, woman and older children with dry eyes or not holding the number 3 in some way or fashion. I don’t think my heart has ever been the same since. It really put a dent in it. Oh the stories I could tell about with them off the track! I still love Jr. as if we were kin. That’s just how racing was. After Gordon retired, then Jr., we have lost our love for racing. Rock and Roll had a phenomenon which was Elvis Presley. NASCAR had a phenomenon, that was Dale Earnhardt!!

I agree with 95% of your comment. Well said! But, it was DEI, or Dale Earnhardt Incorporated, not Earnhardt Enterprises. Also, (and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm trying to be open to both sides of stories) I wonder who was comforting Theresa after his death? The fan's had each other, the team's also had each other... T had a pre-teen daughter, that's basically it. Her parents had passed, I don't believe she had siblings, the only thing she had was just killed. Don't get me wrong, could she have handled Jr's decisions differently... She really didn't need to treat Kerry like she did. That was, in my opinion, going too far! Could she have asked for help, but she probably felt alone, and from experience, the last thing someone who feels alone is going to do is ask for help.... Yet alone a southern woman, who runs a million dollar business.... Just my opinion, and I hope she has found peace somewhere

@@johnobrien9718 its very easy for people who look at nascar as entertainment to forget that there are still hearts and minds behind each of the "characters" at the race track. this is articulated well, in my opinion. Same thoughts, so many attorneys involved in all aspects of that business and yet a multi million dollar business with no succession plan. So many layers to a family dynamic that I don't think it was over looked. I think at the time Dale Sr. didn't think they had the maturity to handle it. Either way without Dale Sr, they were going to fail no matter who controlled DEI. Dale Jr without the backing of Hendrick would have never reached superstar status. It worked out financially for both in the end. Just my opinion.

That’s when serious negotiations began for the next contract, in which the Earnhardt name and the 51% of DEI came into play. You have your material facts wrong. Notice when Junior stopped using his Earnhardt last name in his licensed autograph images was years after Senior passed…and guess what? Having him win the race made it even more special. Once Sr. passed I just moved over to Dale Jr. I watched him race and it gave me that need for racing. Except all that money. Oh and she alienated Seniors kids. DEI was what Senior wanted for the future and she bares the majority of the responsibility for destroying it.

DEI was to be Dale Sr's legacy. His gift to the coming generations. Something to outlive him, and keep his memory alive indefinitely. Theresa is the main reason it is all gone. One day, she will answer for what she has done. She is not alone, but she's a bigger reason than everyone else combined. And it's inexcusable. If she truly loved him, she would have seen to his legacy, and assured that it was forever.

I’ve watched this clip 5 times now, and I think it’s because it’s filled with character, and characters, heart(like the whole show). Mike and dale are amazing at interviews, and it helps when they have great guests. It’s been awsome to watch this show, and them grow over the past couple of years, Dale JR is going to be a legend in the broadcast booth.

Big # 3 Fan here, terrible loss, NO One ever stepped up to fill that slot. I gave up on NASCAR, so sad, Intimidator all the way. Sr. could win with a top 5 car, He did not have to have the best car, HE made up for it.

Wowser! This was easily the best episode of this podcast I have ever seen and it’s not even close. It was beyond riveting. To be able to peel back the curtain and see what actually happened is amazing for those who were fans of both Dale Junior and Senior. Tony Junior was like the missing link in the whole thing. It may sound crazy but I feel like now I have closure about what really happened.

I became a Kevin Harvick fan when he took over Dale Sr's car, and then he won at Atlanta as we all raised our three fingers for Dale Sr. We were there. Our cousin was with us and he was a Gordon fan, and my friend was a Labonte fan, and all were players. What a race!
