He couldn't afford to go to high school and quit school at age 15. It was only after he became an actor that he had the money to hire tutors and take private classes. So make the best of it if you are able to attend high schools and colleges!

I grew up in Hong Kong and I've never watched Tony Leung speaking in English. His fluency and pronunciation are really good!!! He dropped out from school after completing his junior high school and he must have dedicated loads of effort to learn the language!

hello , mr leung did not need to win in cannes - his time was for there - when mr john wu carried mr chow out that was meant as the kung fu moved on to gun fights. his roles was to tell local small for outside. he is his muse to tell their lives. his direction is small stories - wished the word 'player' of his character was not used. elle for ferry late

True.. I thought the same way too. His voice seems deeper whenever he speaks english. But no matter what languages he speaks, tony leung always steals attention 😊

Tony has never studied outside of Hong Kong. In fact, he didn't even have a chance to go to college. He takes learning seriously. He spent time and effort to learn Chinese history and the English language. This is what you get when you study hard,

Tony grew up in HK when it was still a British colony and the official languages were Cantonese and English so he never learnt Mandarin in school.

Oh my God ,he speaks English well and he is very charismatic! I grew up in Hong Kong and its the first time i hear Tony speak English. It's very intriguing. He expresses himself with ease.

His english is very good. I heard Tony is very introverted in real life. Very low key person. He and Chow Yun Fat are pretty humble people. I really like Chow alot too.

I fell in love with him in 2001 after watching Chungking Express (1994) Have seen only about half a dozen of his films but they've all been great, seeing him again in Shang Chi has just re-egnited my love and I'm now determined to go back and watch more of his old films.

Now ask an American actor speak Chinese in an interview. Lol but honestly I didn’t know he spoke English this well. In most of his movies where he spoke English. He had a very strong accent. But now I realized that it was part of his acting.

I have been watching Mrs. Leung's filmography in my childhood since my dad introduced me to Chinese action and kung fu films. Now since the Shang Chi trailer just released, I had never suspected that he was very fluent in English and this interview proved otherwise. He will be great as the Mandarin :)

Tony Leung hired personal tutor for English learning. He said in an interview that Cheung Kok Wing told him he had to master English as he might need to spead English in future for promoting his fiim when they attend "Canne " for the movie "Happy together".

Tony Leung!! this guy is timeless!! I can't recall a sucky movie from him, all I've seen were awesome! I am a little annoyed that the interviewer didn't know anything about the movie. If he was interviewing Samuel L. Jackson, there'd be a screaming fit.

@@disappearintothesea before 1997 Hong Kong was under British rule. If you think about the past 150 years, their education, culture, economy, and practically their way of life was heavily influenced by the Brits. Hence, I see pre-1997 Hong Kongers speaking English as perfect British Hong Kong English 😇

Watching this and then watching interviews he's done for Shang-Chi you can see he's more confident in his English but at the same time still as subtle when he speaks like in this interview.

He's better off in HK. Hollywood always ruins guys like him. Look at what they did to Chow Yun Fat who is an even bigger star or what roles they're giving to Mads Mikkelsen? Absolute disgrace. Hollywood always treats foreign stars like shit.

Really enjoyed Tony Leung in everything I've seen him in. Hard Boiled, Bullet in the Head, A Better Tomorrow 3, Infernal Affairs, and I still need to watch Red Cliff.
