When a bass player thinks "prog rock" to themselves, Tony Levin is pretty much the first person to come to mind. Tony Levin has been involved with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Liquid Tension Experiment, and Bozzio, Levin, & Stevens. Odds are, if you listen to a rock radio station for around four hours, you will hear a Tony Levin bass track.
In addition to being a crucial member of many prog rock bands, Levin has also been a first-call session/tour player for nearly forty years, including work with Paul Simon, John Lennon, Stevie Nicks, Pink Floyd, Peter Frampton, James Taylor, Gary Burton, Buddy Rich, and Cher.

John lennon said in an Interveiw with Andy peebles the day before he was Killed..Tony Levin played Bass on Double Fantasy,I Never Heard of Him,He's Great man,Not Since paul have I Played with atalent like Tony..I Agree..watchin The Wheels has that Infectuous Bass Line..You Rock Tony!,Notice He Never Mentioned his studio Sessions with John..He's a Class Act!

I read Tony's book and he tells a great story about when John called him ... something to the effect of John saying to Tony: I heard you're a good bass player but I don't want you to play too many notes - at which point Tony replied: don't worry, John, you've got the right man.

Met him also. great guy, great talent, I had back stage passes to YES, he was the best memory of the night, tall, very tall man, GREAT TALENT! Great personality, great person. LOVE HIM!

Thanks for posting. I've been inspired by Tony Levin since I was a kid. I would love to listen to this interview, but to me his voice will always be his bass and the way speaks volumes every time I listen and learn from his playing in various situations. I want to keep his speaking voice and everything else about him surrounded by mystique.

Every interview I ever see of Levin he's always so positive and on the level - top geezer and possibly my favorite bass player ever (that is until my amateur voodoo gets Mick Karn back where he belongs)
