Tony McManus, live @ Hugh's Room, Toronto, May 8 2013.
Tony performs a lullaby composed for the Highland Pipes by Gordon Duncan. Duncan never released a recording of the tune, but did make one for Tony, who was working with him on one of his albums. Tony has thankfully preserved the tune and performs it regularly.

If anybody else can replicate the sound of a piper on a acoustic guitar I have yet to hear it. what a wonderful rendition of Gordon Duncan's music, well done Tony

Big Country used to do a bagpipe sound on electric guitar back in the day. But, I agree, this acoustic guitar version of Sleeping Tune is lovely... There is another stringed instrument that can be used to replicate bagpipe music - the harp (some might say unsurprisingly). One of the best renditions of The Little Cascade I have ever heard, performed by a German harpist, can be found here on You Tube.

Thank you. I often worry that I've changed it too much compared with the original......but it's a beautiful thing to play. He recorded a solo version just for me when we worked on Thunderstruck back in 2003.

My favourite tipple the auld McCallans and by the way it was me who wrote that wee tune or maybe it was me and the McCallans whisky, my god i don't know but i do know it is a bonnie wee tune .....

He plays a PRS Tony McManus signature guitar. They're hard to find due to the price but online you can find them.

I first saw TM in about 2003. He was playing a Melville guitar. I thought it was the best guitar I had ever heard. I thought if I had such a guitar I would sound like him. I had such a guitar but I didn’t sound like him. The point is that it’s not the instrument ( which helps) but it’s the player .

Maybe I am launching a little armada of comments against the PRS acoustics such as the private stock series (like the Tony McManus Angelus or the Martin Simpson signature model) - but to my ear they are thin and weak. Of course - like the Emperor's new cloths - their remarkable woods, high cost, and 'fit and finish' which is probably flawless - lead 'reviewers' to suggest they are great instruments. I suspect a lower range Taylor would achieve much more (I do not like Taylors especially but they might sound like this). As PRS turn our beloved guitarists into salespeople we should carefully listen to the actual guitars. Actually even their aesthetic is quite unimaginative - the sort of design and 'trim' one might expect from someone with no real individuality or taste but a lot of money. A waste of wonderful woods and wonderful players. In my humble opinion of course ... and ps. I love Tony's playing

Agreed!...and the tuning seems to always be slightly off at the start of each song! Not what you would expect from a pricey guitar!

@@bambostarla6259 I have 2 guitars,one 50 years old and the other 35 both are seasoned and sound quite beautiful.I tried a PRS A40E recently and found it an instrument with a beautiful voice and a character that will develop as the years go by.
