Why did he get this award ? Because he’s able to take audiences to exactly the focus he wants them to be at and to whatever emotion is relevant to a story or a moment. It always, feels real. If when singing he wants you to feel that you’re in an Arabian desert at night - it works. Other people might be better singers although he can, sing…but you might just be watching and listening as an observer, however appreciative. Tony Shalhoub makes people participants.
