Cheap and easy Horsepower Do this if you own a Mustang

Adding an air filter should not be such a boost but the coyote needs to breath. I never would have thought that adding horsepower would be this cheap and easy. Pick up and Airaid filter today. I would not run for daily commuting but those days where you need just a bit more it helps for sure.

Thank Tony, I removed the trap off too and I can definitely feel something there. At first I thought it was in my head but I took my son out for a drive and he also felt the difference. He is only 13 and didn't know about the change, so that's saying something. You are starting to be my MACH 1 go to guy. Thank again

Thanks for the video! I just bought one directly from Airaid for $59. Assuming I've gained +18 hp (removal of hydrocarbon filter) and another +2hp from this filter totaling to +20hp all for $59 - that's not bad at all.

I changed the very same filter two weeks ago, and already faced the intricacies of the mount. Interestingly, it was not a problem to put it in, (or to remove the original filter), without removing anything else. But then I realized that I did not put the down mark really down and since I could not rotate the filter in place, I had to pull it out first and it was not that easy anymore. Managed to bend and tear the outer mesh during the extraction. Next time I may as well do it your way.

Good looking car man. I used to restore classic mustangs. 69-70 was my fav year. Boss 429 was amazing. Mach 1s were always cool imo. The styling, power, and reputation. You have good taste in cars lol

Thanks Tony, I had this mod for a few months. I’ve also had it in my GT350. I also have a Ford Performance oil separator and resonator delete welded in. The previous videos about the carbon filter in the intake was a big help.

Great video Tony! I'm interested to see how the fuel trim levels are going to be with the air raid filter. Have you thought about doing a resonator delete? I've got a Steeda H pipe at my house and getting it installed next friday. I'm hoping that'll give me a couple extra horsepower and a lot more low end torque.

I just ran some data logging over a 1,800 mile trip and everything is great less than 1% short and long term. Seems like the ECU learns to adapt. I'm not sure on the res delete. I may go headers and that changes everything.

Tony, I just got my Steeda H pipe installed this morning and love it! Quick question, I have been going back and watching your old videos and saw that you had installed a MGW shifter on your first Mach 1. I'm thinking about doing the same but wanted to ask you why you did it and how do you like it and what are the benefits?

I did because it was such a great upgrade in my S197. In the Mach 1 it's an upgrade but nearly as monumental. It has a notchy feeling that you would expect from an MGW but it's not a must have like it was MT82. I think I may go with Long tubes before I spend the $$ on another shifter. If you do go that way get the shift knob from MGW as the factory one is woefully short almost undriveable.

I won't leave it on there IF I'm just cruising around. I know for a fact they do not filter as well but it's an easy swap so when the situation calls for just a bit more...

Wondering how you ended up concluding that it does not filter as the OE paper one? I was planning to replace it as according to every text I've found, the filter actually filters as should. Can you further explain? Or maybe to create more content on this? Thanks @Tony

Thanks for watching and these filters are similar to K&N filters which let through smaller particulates. That's how they let through more airflow as well. There are several tests on the web but the most in detail I have seen is from "project farm" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbBjf5B2ktvKiaM.html

I picked them up at a local dealer. They have a touchless mounting machine. The backs are 325's and one size larger.

Every bit helps to hit the 500 mark and the good thing is they are all low cost. I wonder what the increase would be with these mods and 98 octane? I wish my car had arrived so I could help you out with testing.

I'm not sure if you will know this but i want to use the ford performance oil separators. I have found the passenger side part number but can't seem to find a part number for a 2022 Mach 1 drivers side? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

@@TonysFordsandMustangs nice i used the speedform controller the extension barley cleared the hood. It reminds me of our automatic we had you could adjust the drive mode. Our 21 manual is basic so nice to eco mode and save. The max on the controller is to much for street unless big slicks;)

I am in a state that air trap doesn't apply, so when i take the air assembly off and remove trap isn't it 1 round complete piece? When i pop it out, just slide plastic sleeve back in right?? brand new 2022 5.0 gt. sawed off the carbon trap. hopefully can do this next. you can use the cars own 0-60 timer cant you?

The GT has a closed air box but there are air filters available that will breath better. K&N comes to mind. Thanks for watching and best of luck!

It should however the trap is in a different location as these are different inlets.

They are all about the same. I just won't run all the time as I said in the video none of them perform as well as the OEM as an actual air filter.

I know they didn't change the airbox from 22 to 23 as 2023 was the last year. So there is reason it would not fit. Which websites where you looking at?

Not really. I drive my cars across country so being reliable is important to me. It's the reason I don't own a GT350 as well.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs great information. I’m shopping between a Mach 1 w/handling pack or a 19-20 GT350. Leaning toward the Mach 1 for just that reason. I want to be able to just jump in it and drive with no worries. The Voodoo sounds amazing and the GT350 aesthetics are a bit more pleasing, but the Mach 1 is no slouch. Love your channel.

@@stevekalesia7933 Thank you Steve! I looked hard at the GT-350's but the issues with the Voodoo scared me away from going that route. I've talked to too many service managers that have to replace engines under warranty. Apparently the later cars are not as problematic as Ford did things to reinforce the block. That said Ford no longer makes a flat plane crank and I think the warranty issues (vibration) are a big reason why. I need a car that I can count on to get me where I'm going and the last issue I want is Engine failure. Best of luck!

Keep in mind the Dark Horse will be a bit more pricey. I get it 500 HP is greater than 480 Hp and if you like the style you like it.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs agreed 100% and the difference in price he will pay for the dark horse versus a 22 Mach 1 for that extra 20 horsepower you could buy a Whipple for the same money and get 200 horsepower and personally I think the 2022 Mach 1 looks a lot better than the dark horse.

@@1blacktrike The Dark Horse appears to be the successor to the Mach 1. I would like to see one once they get here next summer.
