This is a wonderful tutorial. Thank you! As usual you not only show examples, but you show how those examples relate to the chords and then you take it one step further by playing those examples functionally in chord progressions. This has helped me understand these concepts so much. Thank you again! So glad to see you are feeling better!

Love these lessons Tony! Who knew you were such a gifted teacher?...your students, I suppose. I too discovered this book, but probably 20ish years ago. It was, and remains a terrific resource for extracting and explaining elements of the language of classic jazz linear improvisation, especially for those, like myself, who tend to approach these concepts academically. I found tremendous benefit in using it. Keep up the great work! Best to you and yours.

This is what composition (so-called jazz improvisation) instruction ought to be - ideas demonstrated with good-sounding examples. First played as single motifs, then elaborated into full chorus lines, like a little Bach one-part invention. That way, we can steal from the best in as little time as possible. BTW, what book is this from? Coker? Baker?
