Join us as we continue sailing across the North Atlantic Ocean from Europe to the tropical Caribbean in our Bluewater capable Hunter 42 Passage. We're approaching Cape Verde in days 7-11 of our transatlantic. The days are getting longer and hotter and as the swell climbs, the winds die, making for some interesting downwind sailing conditions. Wing on wing sailing versus asymmetrical spinnaker sailing is put to the test while showing how we they boost morale when a long passage seems never ending.

Glad I have a "Live" subscription to the non-government optical satellite imagery, the eastern Atlantic sailing vessels are all crystal clear as there is an abundance of sunshine. Oh look....

About the sourdough bread and it failing.....Take the time estimates in recipes just as rough guesstimates. Better to just look at the rise. The time changes quite a bit depending on the ambient temps (and also humidity). If it didn't rise enough last time, then just leave it longer.

I bet! Even for me in a house that doesn't move, the difference between winter and summer is huge. Rise times in winter can be up to 50% longer vs summer. And it still takes me a few mediocre attempts to dial it in.

So, you can go wing on wing with your Jib, you can do so with the main & spinnaker. If your pole won't reach the clew, you can put it on the sheet to wing it out to weather. You can also (if your angle is deep enough & apparent wind is light) put your main on the windward side. It will accelerate wind into your kite, giving you increased apparent wind in the sail. Very enjoyable video!

On passage we turn things off that don’t need to be on, prioritizing our autopilot and instruments. Trying to balance our boat as much as possible and only turning starlink twice a day for weather and brief communication. Especially when it’s a cloudy day

No such thing as a knot per hour, it is like saying mile per hour per hour, a knot is a nautical mile per hour.
@ericmitchell5350
@ericmitchell5350 4 ай бұрын
Knots per hour is a measure of acceleration-if they were going 6.1knots and accelerating at 2.2 knots per hour, after 3 hours, they would be going 12.7knots….they’d have to ditch more than their bathing suits to go that fast in their Hunter 😮
