We've got the forest dweller Ghillie, taking on the mechanical horror Oxide in this solo playthrough of Too Many Bones. This is one of my favorite games because of the strategy involved, as well as it being a big dice chucker. It's been a while since I played so I most likely got some things wrong, but I always maintain if I'm having a good time, then it's all good. Make sure to grab your brew for this one and thanks for watching!

Hey everyone, something I did miss in this playthrough is that the mechs were supposed to come onto the board with a starting defense. I totally missed that, so just FYI.
@Feldingor

It seems also you never rolled defence dice for the kobold as he was chasing you around during day 2 encounter. Did I miss some special effect that prevented baddies defence to work?

@@BrewsandBoardgames don’t worry, I’m never sure myself to play any game 100% correctly 😅 And TMB is not a light game with all the baddies abilities and gearloc skills to keep in mind while deciding the best tactic round after round. @BrewsandBoardgames
@BrewsandBoardgames 2 жыл бұрын
@@emsully03 Ohh man, both are very good, 2 of my top favorite gearlocs. Ghillie is pretty cool with his bow abilities and being able to hit multiple baddies, dealing 2x damage, he can also lay traps and has animals that he can place on the battlefield. It's fun to place the animals and hit multiple enemies at the same time, really fun. Nugget is cool because she can manipulate the battlefield and do things like changing her initiative position to go ahead of others, removing some baddies from the board temporarily, or giving herself movement or attack buffs. But she also has one of the best abilities in the game, the longblade, this is a ranged attack die that has no misses and doesn't exhaust like most skill dice. So you can continue to use it every turn. I have a great time with both gearlocs, they both add a great element of fun. Just grab both maybe? Haha. But if I had to choose 1 for now, I'd say Ghillie :)

The really cool thing about this game is it works extremely well at solo, just as good as multiplayer. And just the core game had Plenty of stuff, I had just the core game for months and that's all I played of TMB and I had no complaints. And cool thing is no TMB product is kickstarter exclusive, so you'll be able to pick it up down the road. It's also one of those games where it's easy to grasp the rules, but there is a ton of nuanced situations that come up. But once you get through that it's seriously a great game. Great video and playthrough! One biggish rules oopsie is the way you played mech armor. They enter play with the amount of defense (armor) indicated on the chip, no rolling like a defense stat. Self repair adds def at the beginning of the baddie turn if they are not at full.

Hey thanks Shaun I appreciate it! You're right about the mechs having the defense when entering the battlefield, I completely missed that. Catching up on all the solo TMB! I actually ordered Ghillie and Tink because of your playthroughs. Are there any rules, with Ghillie about targeting an adjacent baddie? I am thinking like Gloomhaven rules here where you had disadvantage. Or can you still use your full Range (attack die) on an adjacent baddie?
@BrewsandBoardgames
@BrewsandBoardgames 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching them dude I really appreciate it, and I'm glad they are helping you to make some decisions. But no there isn't any rule about disadvantage in here, all ranged characters, whether baddie or gearloc, can hit any space on the board, even adjacent spaces with full attack. Ghillie has some realllly cool skills that I didn't showcase as much here. Just the way the playthrough ended up going, but he has some amazing stuff with the animal companions, traps and things he can do with his bow. Sometimes it's easier to explore the skills in a group, as you can work together to not be the only one on the board taking hits. But I was also trying a different method for this playthrough. That's a huge factor for me in TMB, the ability to try different builds with the Gearlocs, and some skills that you may have brushed off at first, you now see the potential for. Or even if you still think they're weaker, you now see how they could be at least fun to pull off and try them.

Hi! Regarding the enemies beahvior...how do you choose their actions?
@BrewsandBoardgames
@BrewsandBoardgames 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Miguel! So enemies can either be ranged or melee. Ranged enemies will stay in the same spot all battle, melee enemies can move 2 spaces to get closer to you, and they can only attack adjacent, so they are trying to move adjacent. If there is more than 1 space that gets them an equal distance closer, you can choose where they move to. So a lot of times this can benefit you by moving them to a certain spot, which might allow you to run from them easier. After moving, and if able, the enemies will then perform their abilities and attack. If playing a multiplayer game, there are symbols on the baddie chips indicating who it will attack in case of ties. Hope that helps a little!

Hey Ramke I apologize for the late response, I'm going through my comments trying to see if there was anyone I missed and saw your comment. But yea Mechs are immune to fatigue so yea the parts shouldn't come out. But in addition to that. Oxide's Tyrant card states, "At the end of any turn in which Oxide would lose HP, separate it's bottom part and place on a mech starting position." Important part of that sentence is At the end of any turn, when fatigue takes effect that doesn't count as a turn, it happens before any turns. So even if Mechs did take damage during fatigue rounds, the way I read that, a part still would not separate because it's before any turns. I do believe I played it that way, but I could be mistaken.

@BrewsandBoardgames
@BrewsandBoardgames 2 жыл бұрын
Yea I might ask it on a bgg thread or something. Because why I thought that, and I have the manual in front of me so I can quote correctly. Page 19 in V.20 manual states under resolving the Roll "Note: As a Gearloc, you do not need to use the result of any dice you roll unless the Profession or rolled icon rules state otherwise." To me this sentence kind of means you can choose each die individually. And then I think it's kind of reinforced just by understanding if you roll a skill die, and it doesn't come up with a mandatory bones symbol, you don't have to use it. Meaning you could choose that individual die out of the roll to not accept. But then again, attack dice are different. So the question is like is it still use the total attack dice results or nothing? Or can you choose to apply 1 attack dice and not another?

@@BrewsandBoardgames Thinking since I watched your video last night, I'm with you. I think being able to "not apply" any dice gives you the option of splitting the successful ATKs.
