Videos with you and Mel are an absolute joy! I don't care if there's not much guitar playing, but I would love one of those deluxe models. Then I got to the Don Knotts as Mando part and literal tears 😂... I can never un-imagine that 🤣. Brilliant, every second... the guitar designs, the energy, the bidirectional time traveling soul swapping with Brian, everything

I love everything about these guitars. I just bought my first S-style guitar in nearly 20 years after playing mainly Gretsches and Epiphone, and I wound up purchasing a G&L Legacy HSS, because I wanted a coil-split in the bridge and I wanted the Passive Treble/Bass system (as opposed to traditional Strat tone controls. So-now these things, which I’ve been monitoring narrowly out the corner of my eye, waiting to see what happens with them, have a PTB system as well! In ADDITION to all the other incredible features. It’s now officially the most versatile guitar on the market, bar none. I simply must have one…even if intonating TWO bridges must be a truly obnoxious PITA. Forget experimenting with different string gauges on it. But BESIDES that, everything else is bloody amazing.
@alamedaguitars2455
@alamedaguitars2455 Ай бұрын
Thanks! FWIW, I do a very basic intonation with the tremolo bridge, mainly to dial in the tension of the string over the roller bridge per string, using the height and forward/backward motion of the trem saddles to optimize the break angle over the roller. It's certainly possible to use the trem saddles to dial in the tone and pitch behind the bridge, but that's too confusing even for me! ;)

I'm always in the 'never enough' camp. My last build had trple-shot ring mounts, a varitone (with/without a Q-filter) AND the 'Jimmy Page wiring harness. My next will have phase/parallel/series per coils, potential taps for individual coils, obligatory varitone, black ice and a piezo bridge. Not too taxing, then. I've got a drawer full of tiny switches that I'm going to sandwich in-between layers of a pickguard, with the clear middle layer illuminating.

@markhammer643
@markhammer643 Ай бұрын
@@alamedaguitars2455 I find, as well, that there are many "options" whose tonal differences from another option simply vanish, once the amp volume gets turned up, or drive pedal comes on. They're tonal options that exist in theory, but not in practice. I wrote about this in a piece for Craig Anderton's DEVICE newsletter, back in 1979, and I haven't changed my stance since. Maybe you need to add the "producer switch" that Leland Sklar and his studio buddies refer to. The legend is that studio pros might have a do-nothing switch on their guitar or bass. A fussy-n-fickle producer might spend valuable studio time complaining that the tone of a given instrument was a little too much or too little of this or that. The musician would flick the switch and ask "How about now?" and the producer would answer "Perfect".

I feel like 'Clam Shack' has a dirty back story.
@alamedaguitars2455
@alamedaguitars2455 Ай бұрын
I think I mentioned the origins of the Clam Shack in a previous visit to Ryan's place, but here's a summary. I was in an auto accident in 2017 and lost my ability to put words together. About a week before the accident I was talking to a high school friend about kids getting dick pics, and we noticed there wasn't a proper name for the ladies' version. I proposed "clam gram" and she agreed. So after the accident, the word I was best able to say was clam gram, much to my wife and daughter's amusement. Thankfully I was able to say more before too long. Now I don't know when to shut up. Actually I never did. So that's the dirty part. Now, it's not easy coming up with a name for a guitar that's cool but hasn't already been used. I had a revelation that a) I've never been cool so why try and b) what's not to love about a Clam Shack? Besides, that's more easily marketable than clam gram. Maybe Clamocaster?

You two are pure comedy act. Ryan you should team up with Mel more often. Very enjoyable to watch. No there can never be too many switches on a guitar due to the fact that it gives you more tonal options with your pickups. As they say “the more the merrier” lol. Get naked and get your surf on.
@bldallas

Please tell me those knobs go to 11. But seriously, it has to be easier to learn how to fly a commercial airplane than it is to learn how to control that guitar. I like me some push-pull pots and 4 way Tele switches, but these things have way too many options. I would be paralyzed by over-adjustability.

They go to 11.11111!!!! Yes, these are complex controls, that's why I also make a standard version with a volume, tone, voice rotary, 5-way switch, and a neck on/off switch. I'll have to figure out how to add a "un-paralyze by over-adjustability" switch. :)
