Tool shopping at Pawn Shop Cornwell Snap-on and SK Sockets Ratchets

Those SK socket sets had me drooling. I have few old SK ratchets and a 1/2 shallow set (12point) that I got from my grandpa. I upgraded the ratchet to a Snapon that my dad got somewhere. But the sockets and metal tray they come in have worked great for years and will continue to work great.

The S-K round head ratchet is classic and is a sturdy tool. It is the right ratchet to put in a set. If you want ultra-fine teeth, or any other special feature in a ratchet, you need to buy the ratchet individually to get exactly what you want.

I personally love buying toolboxes full of tools/sockets/wrenches at pawn shops or FB marketplace. I can usually see from the picture some name brands or not. They end up being cheap and there USA craftsman. My last couple had at least one snap on socket in them. Also many dont warranty them so I end up with a few new ones from the damaged ones :)

I have bought a bunch of Snap-on Mac and SK and a few Cornwell at my pawn shops they give them to me for 50 cents each or if I buy 25 or more I get them for a set price which is $10 because they told me there is no market for used tools

That's how it works man, someone got a 5 finger deal at the local auto parts stores and then they take it to the pawn shops for some quick cash. Then you get to pay their inflated prices for things they paid pennies on the dollar for.

You completely failed to mention that the loose socket bins are where you’re likely to find a great deal. I’ve found numerous SK, MAC and Snap On sockets in these bins. Obviously, they’ll use EBay pricing for items that come in packaged, but the bins are where they typically overlook, because they buy in bulk and no one wants to look over several hundred sockets. You should watch my vids where I discuss this very same topic

true, went to one today and picked through the buckets and got 5 snap on sockets along with some matco sk and cornwell for like 15 bucks, they usually don't look through the sockets you buy in my experience as long as you buy a good amount of them

I like the classic round head S-K ratchet. My 3/8” ratchet is vintage and has 40 teeth. I’ve always thought that was enough, although 60 teeth would be good. Finer than that is not important. Strength is important.

Snap on Ratchet was closest to a deal. Even then not much of one. Rest was @ retail pricing. I always let them sit awhile then lowball em. If it's long enough I've seen them come down 50% Like you said I think the biggest glaring detail about SK is their subpar ratchets. I can hear it in the sound of the ratchet.

I see a lot of pawn shops with tool truck stuff on ebay NEW I think they have a brother who has a truck. I think this would be a great live stream topic. I'm very suspicious of this store!
@nathanlockman1554
@nathanlockman1554 5 жыл бұрын
The Snap On Metric buy one get one set is almost exactly the truck price. $330 last time I saw them on the truck. So not exactly a steal of a deal.

I felt the same way, everything was a few bucks cheaper here and there, but nothing I just couldn’t live without. It’s never fun walking away empty handed, but sometimes it happens. Maybe next time.

Older sets with sockets that don't have a Flank Drive type chamfered corner inside are not as desirable. That really helps to not round off the corner of a fastener. When Snap-On's patent ran out every maker made their own branded style of that feature.

I'm feeling quite sketchy on these sockets. Some of sockets need to be carefully analyzed. Otherwise, unknown sockets will be swapped inside the name brand tools box.

I would like to see these pawn shop prices go to what they used to be 1/3 of original price My bubby told me he has been scoring in goodwill and old salvation army stores for hand tools and home theater speakers like velodine subwoofer $1800 new for $75

The problem is that eBay has raised prices everywhere because it is such an efficient market which anybody, anywhere can monitor. In the old days, we just had junk stores. They would have a table of old tools in no particular order, and you just picked through it looking for something interesting. That’s how I got my S-K 3/8” ratchet, ca. 1960.

Down here in Brazoria County Tx, there are No Pawn Shop Tool Deals. Save yourself a shit load of time and call up your local Snap On Distributor. He will sell it to you cheaper. I have recently came across a 1/2" cordless impact, Snap On no less, with no charger, $459.00. The economy is booming down here. But TOM"s , y'all need to come on down here with the rest of is. Thankfully. there are still legit pawn shops out there. Thanks for an eye opening video. Just thought , they all have become crooks.

@raabsand
@raabsand 4 жыл бұрын
At some yes. If you frequent it often and notice an items been there for a while mention it and name a price or ask what they'll take to get rid of it. They pay Penny's on the dollar and shelf space is valuable. An item sitting is worthless taking up space for a potentially sellable item

🤔Most mechanics like 12-point sockets I am a real ASE certified Master Auto Mechanic with over 60 years of real experience personally I like 6-point sockets 6-point sockets will not mess up any boats on any automobiles 12-point sockets are okay and get into really tight areas always watch out for any stolen tools because you could go to jail even if you are really innocent EVEN if you are really interested you can be really guilty especially at any pawn shops it's happened before matter of fact it's happened many of times before at any pawn shop's always run a real check on any tools always make sure you got all serial numbers right are you could go to jail for something you did NOT REALLY do Believe It or Not jails really are already filled up with real Innocent folks yes some folks are guilty believe it or not they are real innocent folks in Real jail yes I do know you will say not me that Will never happen just always run a real check on any real tools if you don't want to wind up in a real jail. For something you REALLY Did NOT DO ! .

🤔 always look out for a pawn shops be really careful For a pawn shop most of those prices really are a big rip off I have bought tools before at pawn shops that really is a real rip off especially for a pawn shop always check and make sure any tools is not stolen it's possible for you to go to jail for stolen tools it happens all the time at pawn shop's that's right you got to look out for stolen tools you don't want to go to jail for something you did not steal that's right innocent folks go to jail all the time for stolen property at pawn shops easy to get in jail and really hard to get out of jail believe me you are guilty until proven innocent it is not innocent until proven guilty it really is guilty until proven innocent and you will stay in jail until you are proven innocent because if you go to jail you are already guilty even if you are not guilty you will not get out of jail until proven innocent even if you are really innocent you can still go to jail and be pretty guilty even you really are innocent 😇
