This plane and saw till style cabinet was inspired by one from Popular Woodworking nearly 5 years ago. Yes, it took me that long to get it to this point.

I may be late to the party here... I've watched (and learned) you for years blacksmithing. I too enjoy carving and woodworking. I wouldn't be mad about more videos about your wood working adventures. Thanks John for a library of great videos, you truly have educated a lot of people and I know we appreciate what you do, and what you're willing to teach us. Cheers from Washington!

John i joined your channel watching your blacksmithing. While i enjoy ALL of your videos. My hart is in woodworking. GREAT BUILD AND GREAT EDITING! Watching the stop motion was wonderfu as you filled your till. You my friend are one busy all around CRAFTSMAN and ARTIST. I also enjoy what Janet is doing on that loom. That is also a time consuming and very rewarding craft. I truly believe busy hands make for a happy successful life.

Very cool John! I like the new cabinet. Everything is right there in front of your eyes. As long as you put things away (my problem) you'll easily be able to put your hands right on them. Oh and nice work in the cabinet itself. Looks great!

Nice cabinet, John! With some careful planning, you could make double doors in a 'shell' style to make storage room for chisels, whetstones, etc. And of course you can make hinges strong enough to handle the weight. Speaking of weight, that's gonna be needing something like 90° shelf brackets underneath for support. Three is not overkill. You can make those, too. I remember the various drawer handles people sent you a few years ago for the b blacksmith shop. Beautiful stuff! Being able to create everything yourself means as fancy or utilitarian as you so desire! Just my usual rambling two cents worth. 🐾🔥⚒ EDIT: Dangit, Stan's adding another idea. Countersunk neomydian magnets in blind holes hidden with plugs will keep the doors shut without the need for a latch. Read less. I'll see myself out.

Hey @John Switzer I think it would be awsome if you made a woodwork channel I’ve been subscribed to you for a while and I’ve always enjoyed watching you work wether it is wood work or blacksmithing and I understand that videoing your hobby can sometimes make in not as enjoyable and if that is why you have not made a woodworking channel yet then I do understand but I do think that it would be very enjoyable to watch or even if you just posted more woodwork on this channel that would be cool as well

Hi John, I can see the cabinet in the shop. Tool chest was used for when the carpenter went to the jobsite. I have a tool chest that belonged to a family member that worked on the world's fair in Chicago in the 1890's,(I believe). Sadly no tools, just a chest now, with a little history. 🤔

As yourself I first got into BlackSmith for the wood working tools I've a old 90 degree wood working chisel ,I'm planning on BlackSmithing my own perhaps 3/4" and a 1/4" for smaller work Maybe a great project for yourself and another video as many people never seen them but for modest and tenent joints they save time and cleaner work. Thanks for teaching Myself I'm 70 planning to get to the wood working tooling and quit other chores but gardening but is gardening a chore ?

Hi there you have made a nice job of this and have some neat old tools. I myself are a traditional joiner/ boatbuilder by trade so know how many hours you have put into this project.However i run my familys engineering and fabrication business down here in New Zealand and are subscribed to all three of your channels and love all the content you put up, as blacksmithing is a new hobby to me .

The plane and saw tills look beautiful! I’ve been looking at this same project. Like you, I am planning to add doors to protect tools from humidity, dust, pollen, etc. Are you planning one door for each side, or two? Or something different? I would love to hear what you’re thinking. Best wishes.

Total wood noob: I've seen similar racks for planes. I've always wondered, since you are not supposed to set a plane on its blade, is there a cut out for the blade? Or are the planes only touching bottom and top, this the blade isn't touching? Great video and thanks for sharing!
@TheTrashologist
@TheTrashologist 3 жыл бұрын
As long as you are not setting your planes on a metal surface it’s not going to hurt them to be set down on the blade. And it is a lot safer for you
