I second this. Literally I can go 3-4 days without tool and notice somethings off. Like my days seem shittier. Tool is absolutely medicine for me. It’s ridiculous. As a drummer I finally am starting to wrap my brain around Danny’s rhythms. The polyrhythmic counting is out of this world. No way I can play any of it. But it’s the one band that challenges my musical abilities. Mentally. I can not wait to get a set built. I’m building a Danny like set. So I’ll see y’all in 8 years a 15,000 later😂

I take that back. The 5/4 bit in lateralus The high hat bit in triad. There’s not much. But I’ve noticed how much more he incorporates rudiments. If you can figure out the rudiment then the pattern can be kinda simple. You just have to then add two or three other patterns and move the first pattern around the set. That’s where shit gets insane.

AMEN brother.30 years ago...not great,but good.Seen live shows six more times and each one has been a mind bender.I tell all music heads to put a live Tool show at the top of their bucket list.Drink the Tool-aid.Do it.Dive in head first.No regrets. No need for booze or drugs...the sound and the light will get you higher than a Chinese kite. TOOL live is simply amazing.

Man I had tickets, nabbed em, and guess what happened? Pandemic. Tour cancelled. I still hope for a future tour I can experience. But I know what you mean.

I relate them to Pink Floyd a lot - not because the sound is similar, but because the effect is. Both bands committed to breaking molds of existing musical trends and invested in building long, complex tracks and thematic concepts that talk about life on a deeper level and transport the listener on some emotional journey.

@@notimportant3686 it's a live. It can't be and It doesn't have to be the same as the studio version. Different doesn't mean worst. And moreover to say that Danny Carey doesn't keep time is an antithesis (and a bit of a blasphemy).

@@notimportant3686 Actually it is Adam who is wrong. When Danny looks like he's missing a beat, he's actually making up for a guitar mistake. In any case, if a group plays a 12-minute super-complex piece by heart (and all the pieces of the concert are like this) and without timing on ear and to understand that there is an imperfection you have to see the images (because you can't hear anything ), it takes courage to say they don't keep time. If you saw them live you would understand, in my life I have only seen Radiohead play at the same level.

Agreed, but there are other great songs that never get shouted out, such as "Like Suicide", "Tighter and Tighter", and "Disappearing One." RIP Chris Cornell

Please don't bring the Climate Change fear mongering to a Tool conversation. There is no proof that we cause climate change. It is known that the Earth's climate fluctuates on it's own and has done so for millions of years. Back in the 70's they scared us with a "pending Ice age". Nothing in the Lyrics mentions Climate Change. He could be speaking of Nuclear Armageddon. He could be talking about Artificial Intelligence (A La The Terminator movies). He could be speaking about losing our freedom to Big Government collusion with Mega Corporations. YOU chose to make it about Climate Change. You have the right to think of it that way for yourself, but don't define this song for others through your personal lens. I suspect Maynard left it open to interpretation intentionally. Climate Change (and systemic racism) are the "TOOLs" being used to control us into conceding our freedoms to the Government. ps. I love our planet and the creatures that inhabit it. We are part of this world and because of our big brain technology we have become a threat to the other animals trying to live here. We certainly need to own responsibility to preserve it because we seem to be the only ones with the ability to protect it from habitat destruction, which is my personal opinion you can accept or reject for yourself. Thank you so much for this. Didn’t get the memo and made it just in time to buy tickets for Dallas! It’ll be my first tool concert. And I cannot wait. I’ve studied their whole discography over the past two years. Really an incredible group.

I'm really appreciating the breakdowns of Rosetta Stone recently. Perhaps a bit more balanced between vocals and instrumentals but I love the vocal contributions in it.

I concur, I was lucky enough to see them perform this song as well. It was a small tour, right before the album dropped. It was almost like a warm up tour. Just a handful of cities. My mind exploded after the solo especially. 🤯 I just remember that solo with a bright orange pyramid on the screen behind them. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
