The craziest thing about Tool is that I will walk away from it for a few months, and then come back when I need it in my life. Tool's music literally helps me through hard times. Not trying to sound weird, but it helps me really focus on what's important to me.

It's made me reevaluate other bands. No matter who they are, I'm comparing them to Tool. Fear inoculum is still sounding new to me. The concert tour went great as far as I've heard. What's not to like about these guys.

I had a very spiritual experience with this song. I used to be bullied and very shy at school. Then I changed a lot and grew to be super happy with myself and my life. One day i was listening to this song on repeat and went by my old school at night. Then I want to the park which is 3 min away and sat on a big hill with a large view of the city. This song was in my headphones and the experience was beyond words. Just sitting, being at peace with the past, looking into the future that i will create for myself with confidence, looking into the city with all the lights of all the people living there, thankful for TOOL´s amazing art.

Listening to the album in order, after letting go my grudges, struggling with my patience, repairing my communication, recognizing my own eternity, ridding myself of all the leeches after they've taken all I can give, and finally beginning to embrace the random, the intro of this song begins and simultaneously heals and evokes. It might not be your interpretation but it's mine and it's helping. I love this music so much.

I got the lyrics to this song tattooed on my arm about 7 years ago. I got it with a tree that has all four seasons on the branches. It starts with spring on the left side and ending with winter on the right side. There is a boy sitting on the left side of the tree looking up towards the stars and his older self on the right side also looking up. I have the moon and sun tattoo together with the starts overhead. The lyrics "watch the weather change" are directly over the tree, "mention something mention anything" to me is where the boy is and "mention this to me" is next to the older man. The sun/moon and stars are all around to complete my forearm tattoo; from the elbow down to my wrist. I first listen to this song on acid and I continued to listen to this song since then that was almost 10 years ago. For me, listening to this song at a California beach watching the sunset has given me eternal hope in my life. I always took this song as metaphor for time and that time waits for no one. The four seasons come and go, people come and go, and our mind/body grows old. It is to live in the moment because the time we have now is the only time we will have this experience; right here right now. That younger child is still talking to me and with me since I have grown up. I promise I will not let him down. #toolarmy

A bit less hopeful. You seem to love your daughters and also intrinsically have a light within which is very valuable to the world. You have to take care of yourself because you are valuable. This song always brings me to tears. My interpretation of the lyrics and simplicity of the instrumental is that nothing can stay - everything is constantly changing. You must let go of all your desires, all ego, all circumstances, all attachments and accept that they, too, will pass over with everything. It makes you feel small and meaningless, hence “mention anything,” the smallest thing can have meaning but also have little significance in the grand scheme of things. But even those small, insignificant things that are subject to change, are just as spiritually beautiful and precious as the next.

Reading a comment here on someone that had a spiritual experience with this song brought me back to a time in my life i struggle to leave behind... in 1998 i met someone that became a very special person in my life. He played the bass very nicely and was part of a band that was still in the making.... his favorite music band was Tool, back then it was news to me... but we definitely clicked and Tool became a very intimate part of our relationship as close friends. We used to speak on the phone for HOURS at a time... all night and through the first hours of the morning, every single day. In one of the last occasions we did that, he had gotten discharged from the hospital for like the 5th time, with a very high fever as a symptom of septicemia (bacteria in the bloodstream) very serious life threatening illness. Getting discharged form a hospital with an illness of that magnitude, its something that only happens in a country like the one i come from... In one moment of our conversation, he was agonizing with the fever, and he told me to get a pen and write down some lyrics for a song that he was about to tell me... He actually gave me the lyrics to this song but in Spanish which is our primary language... He died a few weeks later in the hospital. Almost three years after his passing i went to his house and asked his grandmother to allow me to sleep over with his pillow... I played the whole album (Lateralus that had just come out) for him to listen to (wherever he might be) and this particular song ended up in REPEAT all night long as my tears drenched his pillow. I know that before passing on, the spirit does visit certain places and people that somehow had meaning in their lives. I wonder if this song was probably being written at that time and he somehow had the chance to listen to it before it even came out.... I guess it was his way of keeping his memory alive in me three years down the line. I didnt even notice the fact until that night i was laying with his pillow that the lyrics to this song were the very words he had asked me write down 3 years prior while agonizing with a terribly high fever... Yeah, definitely a very spiritual experience....😌

I’d always thought of this track as filler and sort of skipped over it but I’m realizing it’s a hidden gem. It conjures a feeling and emotion like no other Tool melody does. I don’t play bass but the melody is simple and I created my own arrangement on acoustic guitar. It’s just a few notes but they come together in such a beautiful and spiritual way I could just play and sing this for hours.

Anyone who has depression knows about those 'clear' moments, where the symptoms all seem to fade away for all of a couple minutes, and you just get out of your head and look around at the environment in a mixture of confusion, realization and short-lived content. Simultaneously one of the most beautiful and tragic aspects of mental illness, it's something that happens randomly and is basically impossible to intentionally 'cause' to happen, but this song can trigger it for me somewhat regularly. Early morning, pink sky as the sun peeks through in the distance, illuminating the clouds. Only soul you see driving down a road, which is shining from a recent rain shower, though you can't see any dark rainclouds. Maynard is singing about the weather changing, time progressing, nature and mind healing, and you can see and feel exactly what the lyrics are painting in that moment. Fuck, I think I'm having one of those moments...

Okay so the tools fans that say they "dont need drugs to enjoy tool" all the time are ignorant. Nobody said they need drugs to enjoy tool. I'll tell you what your problem is. You've never tried LSD. LSD unlocks things in your brain that nothing else can. When someone tells you try tool with LSD it's not because they're a druggie like you people act. It's because something happened to them while listening to tool on LSD. Something deep within them. So stop acting like your better because "you enjoy tool without drugs" so what? everybody enjoys tool here drugs or no drugs. But dont criticize what you dont understand. And those of you who keep telling people to take acid and listen. Yeah I know the experience is unfathomable through words. It changed my life forever and is the sole reason I was able to find the strength to quit opiets. But chill. These people are narrow minded and there is no convincing them to try something so profound. They will only understand if they chose to go where they have never gone before. To the deepest darkest depths of there mind and to the highest most beautiful enlightenment, if they are content without knowing what lies within. Let them be.

This and Parabola were the first two Tool songs I ever heard. That was almost 20 years ago. Needless to say I'm still a fan 😎
