I went to HS with Jim,--opps,---Maynard, and wrestled with him on the wrestling team (I graduated in 81, he in 82). He was a good athlete, who did what I did, he stuck with sports based on the individual. His dad was our coach, and teacher--and was very good at both. I think he was the best grade school teacher I ever had, and he made great impressions on me, that helped me find some success also. Maynard James Keenan, comes from some good cloth. I am a bit surprised he never did a remake of a Kiss song, as he had Kiss posters all over the inside of his hallway locker, or may be that Aerosmith song "Dream on", because I know he dug that song back then. I would love to hear Tool remake that song. I thought it was a great song too. i admit i was taken by surprise when i found out how goofy he(maynard) was and how great his sense of humor was. i always thought he was this tortured and holier-than-thou rocker (maybe like billy corgan) who let his fame go to his head too much. he seems totally cool and down to earth, and even humble and sensitive which is awesome. i found out when he does weird shit like do a show with his back to the stage it's because of stuff like the camera flashes could trigger seizures and he doesn't like talking about his old songs a lot because he thinks of them as being.. not terrible but just.. stuff he made when he was younger and in his mind silly kinda. so it's really a self-critical and self-deprecating kind of embarrassment. i don't think he realizes or he doesn't let it sink in how much his older stuff means to people. which to me is great; it shows he's one of those great artists who always strives to get closer and closer to(what he considers) perfection and isn't satisfied until he is there
