Amateur video work and amateur hobby machinist. Videos of me working on various projects in the workshop and around the home. Work using my Vevor MX400 Mini Lathe and Precision Matthews PM-25MV Benchtop Milling Machine.

Thanks, Yes indeed, I have moved this awesome artpiece to the workshop, Still looking to fina permanent home for it. I am close, Been cleaning up the workshop this weekend.

You can tilt the head of the mill too, then just use your regular end mills. Just do 1 side then rotate the part. Obviously you have to re tram the head after. Those digi inclinometer's are good for setting up parts on an angle in the vise, just put the part upside-down. Then your X axis is perpendicular to the chamfer face, DRO zero at touch off and move over for whatever size chamfer you want, just remember the offset for the next side👍👌🇦🇺

I was close to tilting the head but I really really didnt want to mess with retramming it for this simple project. Great suggestion and mention though. I remember you mentioning using a digi inclinometer before for tramming and other setups. Makes the whole process so much better, I do have inclinometer as a item to pick up on my list. Just havent got to it yet. Thanks and Cheers from the US.

Nice project Deez. You need to pay attention to Conventional and Climb milling when you were using that chamfer bit. All your finishing cuts should be in the same direction, either Conventional or Climb, whichever gives you the best finish.

I do know the difference between those cuts but am still learning when to use each. I have read up a little about them but am still figuring that out. I didn’t realize I should keep all my finish passes the same style of milling. Makes sense now that you mention it. Thanks.

Its hard to tell for sure with cuts in the video. Are you locking your xzy down when not using that direction? It will help with your finish if not.

I didn’t lock the unused axis while making this part. Good reminder. That really may have helped. I think much of my issues were too aggressive of a cut, not the correct speeds and feed and a dull tool. After I slowed down and took lighter passes it really started looking better.
