I like how you really pay attention to the music & take notes, letting it play through without interrupting the song. And you've got the start of the right ingredients for a successful reaction channel, the holy trinity of rock if you will. They are Pink Floyd, Tool & Metallica. They have massive amounts of the most loyal & intensely dedicated fans. I scanned the comments really quick & surprisingly didn't see anyone mention the way they wrote it. The time signature is in that of the Fibonacci Sequence. The first verse starts with a run ascending 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3 and finishes by descending with 13-8-5-3 then in the second verse does a complete run up then back down 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3-2-1-1-2-3-5-8-13-8-5-3. For more information about the Fibonacci Sequence you should look it up for yourself because it would be a whole book typed out on here.

This is my favorite song ever, too. One thing about Tool is the more you listen, the better they get. Tool is perfect to blast in the car and feel the bass/beat. When you can 'feel the rhythm' of the song, their transitions are so seamless that when you can bob to the beat, it's so tight when it hits. A key to being able to keep time is to stay with the beat; it'll come back around. You can get a couple down beats but it'll switch to upbeats before it comes back. I hope that makes sense. Welcome to the fold. I would also suggest you go back and do their early stuff first. Going in order will give you some of the sense that us fans have had all these years(without the wait lol) and you can hear their progression album to album before you're ready for 7empest. lol 🤘

@atelierbones4 жыл бұрын
Shut up and take my Subscription...lol I love how you really dig into the lyrics. My guy, you're in for a hell of a ride. I've mentioned this on other reactions for this song, but there's a deeper layer to this track. My apologies... The explanation's gonna be a bit long. Words in all caps are key terms you can look up on Wikipedia, if you want to know more. The song is built on the FIBONACCI sequence, but also it has some heavy lyrical roots in Spiritual ALCHEMY and the work of JUNG and NIETZSCHE. In Alchemy, people are born and grow through a process known as TRANSMUTATION, starting with NIGREDO (blackening or necrosis), ALBEDO (whitening or ablutio), CITRINITAS (yellowing or xanthosis), and finally RUBEDO (reddening or iosis). This is the process by which the PHILOSOPHER'S STONE (also called the MAGNUM OPUS or "GREAT WORK") is created. So when Maynard says "Black then White are all I see, in my infancy. Red and Yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, lets me see." He is referring to a growth or change in his Spirit through Alchemy. This sort of growth is mentioned in several tracks by Tool (notably 46&2), and is also heavily featured in the writings of Carl Jung and Friedrich Nietzsche. Alchemy also holds dear the concept of the GOLDEN RATIO, also called PHI (symbol ϕ). 1.618 is the approximate value for Phi, and is what people mentioned in the comments about living creatures and art having proportions built on this idea (spirals on shells, Leonardo DaVinci's paintings, etc). Hope this helps, and I loved this reaction. Keep spiraling out, and making awesome content! 👍🏼

This song was constructed using the fibonacci sequence. A formula that creates the Golden Spiral found in nature. It's in seashells, sunflowers, leaf and cellular structures. The pattern takes the proceeding 2 numbers of a sequence to calculate the current number.. So... 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13.... Maynard uses these in the syllables of the lyrics... 1 Black 1 then 2 white are 3 all I see 5 in my infancy 8 red and yellow then came to be.. Plus the music is written in complimtary time signatures 7/8 7/9... The are amazing brilliant and unlike any Illuminati-pop found on the radio today... Taylor Swift? Please!!

Spiral Out, bud. subbed Everyone has a preference, but I'll second the urge to read Tool lyrics *as* you first listen. (Mandatory on Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned, BTW) It still probably won't sink in right away. Don't worry about that. Tool is absorbed slowly for best effect. On-screen lyric vids can be good, but watch out for the miss typed/miss heard ones that will be called out in their comments sections as being plain wrong. Eg, it's not 'Cut it all, right in two' but rather the correct lyric 'Cut and divide it all right in two' instead.
