Tool - Disposition/Reflection/Triad (REDUX)
So, I screwed it up yesterday. Have no idea what I managed to do, but when I listened back to the video I uploaded, it was very much slower than the one that I listened to when reacting. I've put it right here.
Sorry!
Jim

it's actually baffling to me why reflection doesn't get more attention. I've been listening to these guys for 25 years, and i truly believe that reflection is their best song. the layers, complexity, and the profound depth of the lyrics blow me away every single time i hear it. thank you for making this video and exposing more people to its brilliance.

This is the song (Reflections specifically) that originally got me into Tool. When I was a young lad (19/20yo) I was round at a small house party getting high as fuck. At some point someone put on Lateralus and I remember sitting on the couch, totally spacing out, and this haunting "before I pine away...." was playing and I was totally absorbed by it. I asked my friend the following day what we had been listening to, and that's how I found out about Tool. I bought Lateralus and listened to it endlessly for weeks. Then went on to get the rest of their albums. As an aside note, Tool are the only band that I own their entire catalogue on physical CD. Including a bootleg CD recorded at a gig in Glasgow. Fucking amazing band! And now I get great enjoyment watching other people discover and hear my favourite songs for the first time.

Crucify the ego refers to the sensation one gets from a very intense hallucinogenic trip. Total loss of ego, or shattering the ego is best described as a total loss of visual connection with reality. The senses cease to function in the normal way. Merging with space, other objects, or the universe. The loss of reality becomes so severe that it defies explanation. It’s an incredible feeling. Helps make sense of the world and your perception of it.

Hello Jim, I came here because of Marillion and never had heard of Tool before hearing their songs on your channel. I love the variety of music genre you offer us the video for this song, somekind of tail moving along the music over the human head, this reminds me that music can affect all your body, brains muscles and bones and your psychic aura if you believe in such things I enjoyed watching the video as much as the music, sometimes music is much more than sound waves hitting your ear drums, the beating leaf and the colors helped me visualize the music, if you listen to this live with the drums sound reverberating on your bones, it must be a wonderful spiritual experience

I remember really getting this album for the first time. It was a few weeks after it came out. I had listened to it several times but I just couldn't "get" it. I finally sat down and really listened to it, and it DID put me into a trance. All my senses but my hearing were reduced to a minimum. I wasn't asleep I was just *there*. Floating and listening. And then "Faaip de Oiad" started and it is so freaky and weird. I was still in this trance state but it became a frantic nightmare. It builds and builds and ends with this really loud electronic ZAP! Snapped me right out of it like the band had kicked me right in the balls. Very unpleasant. I always felt they did that on purpose. Ha Ha you bastards. I get the joke.

In one of your earlier reviews you listened to Aenima and said that Maynard is really, really angry. You then said something to the effect of "c'mon it's not that bad". I think in some respects you misread what Maynard is saying but that is really ok because 1) it was your first lesson and 2) Maynard/Tool is about thinking for your self. What I would say is that in Aenima he says words to the effect of "don't call me apathetic, try to read in between the lines." To me, reading in between the lines is kinda where Reflection comes in. Tool is musically dark and can deal with dark topics but it is actually very hopeful to me. Re-read that last stanza in the lyrics. The whole thing is important but the end is "Bringing out our hope and reason". Which is what I desire. Gotta run. Always enjoy your Tool reactions.

I love how, at first, TOOL reduces you to monosyllabic reactions. "WOW!" 😁 Keep them coming, sir. I truly enjoy witnessing another musician 'experiencing', TOOL. I'll leave the suggestions to others and just eagerly await your next experience. Cheers

This is my favorite transcendental song by this incredible mind-blowing band. The second I heard TOOL for the very first time, I almost yelled to my friend playing, "WHO IS THAT?" - circa 1991.

Not to compare Metallica and Tool, but that was my reaction hearing For Whom the Bell Tolls for the first time. I had heard some of the songs from the Black Album that were being played on the radio, but nothing earlier. A neighbor had his boombox out in the driveway and that first bell ring caught my ear. I stopped what I was doing and just listened. Tool came to me a little differently.

I think "Reflection" is a reference to a challenge. A promise of the best efforts of four musicians, moreso than normal. I think this song is a battle of weaponized talent first summoned and conquered alone, and then reflected outwards towards each other. These guys are unreal.
