Good video 👍 Thanks for posting, I have heard that some of these cheaper imported welders don’t read amps properly, definitely a bit disappointing. But it does look like it’s got some good features and welds good 👍

Thanks Mike! I bet most of them are a little off, just nice to know if you are just learning that it may not be something you are doing but maybe the machine! Thanks for watching!

A few years back, you clamped the amico power dc 160. If I remember right, I think it was within about 10 amps of where the machine was set. Makes me want to clamp a few of my machines!🙂

Good analysis. The higher amps seemed to have a 20 to 30 amp difference. I think some experimenting with different rods will help a user determine how they operate. Thanks for the comparison. How did your wooden log bench finally turn out that you were making for your bride? It looked like it was coming along pretty nicely. Full-watch. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🙂 3/30/22

Thanks Don! I would be curious to see how the other newer inverter welders do also. I have to cut down a couple cedars that have grown into a problem blocking my view from a good deer stand, thats what I am going to slab up for the seat on her bench! Probably cut them down next week then get them slabbed on the mill!

Do you think this machine could handle 1/2”+ material? As long as you get your root pass and bevel the thicker material and do some multi pass welding im assuming it would do fine

I’m sure it would put it together, not sure how well it would hold, that’s a lot of metal to heat up and penetrate properly! Thanks for watching!

Chinese amps are famously small. I can live with it being a 165 amp welder. I was hoping for 180 but oh well. BTW how many amps (either real or Chinese) can you get from 110 Volts? Are the results the same on wire feed welding? (I would think they would be but it is possible there is a difference) I was wondering if replacing the power cord with heavier gauge wire would help performance on both voltages? Thanks again!
@1rustytree2 жыл бұрын
Right! I wasn't worried much either , I don't go much above 165 anyway. Honestly most of my welding arc and wire is done with 240v. Good luck!

Wonder how hard it would be to align the display to the actual output. Might be as simple as adjusting a potentiometer on one of the circuit boards.
@1rustytree Жыл бұрын
You might be right! I just like to have a general idea what it is putting out, I remember years ago messing with pots on amps there were log pots and linear pots but that's about as far as I go! Thanks for watching!

Were both welders plugged into the same 240 outlet for the comparisons?
@1rustytree2 жыл бұрын
Right! That’s the only 240 in the garage. Seems to be a good welder though. Thanks for watching!

7018 make some beautiful welds. Mine run just fine and I have the same welder. Are you on 240 or 120? I run on a 240v 30A circuit without a problem. For 3/32 I put hot start on 5 and arc force on 2, 1/8 I run them both on 5.
@1rustytree2 жыл бұрын
Thanks I’m going to try that setup!

@@1rustytree 3/32 I use about 85 Amps on the machine and 1/8 I usually go about 110 Amps for 7018s. However with these Chinese welders my 100 Amps might not be the same as your 100. A lot of people will run 50 Amp 240v for welding, but I would not recommend that with this welder as the power cord attached to the machine is only rated for like 30 or 35 Amps.
@1rustytree Жыл бұрын
I haven’t run 7018 much. I use 7014 rods as I have a lot of them from welding with AC in the past. I understand 7018 need to be kept in a dry location. Still getting used to the wire feed welding . Sorry for the late response comments have been hit and miss!

@@thatoneguy454c the power cord, the ground, as well as the mma cord, all have the same wire, I've replaced all mine with 6ga copper stranded and I've gotten a much better result.
@thatoneguy454c Жыл бұрын
@@Tcl24valamp yeah the hot start helps but you just got to be careful about the thickness of what you are welding on. I have had no problems burning everything from the tiniest welding rods all the way up to 5/32 hard facing rods. It burns stainless steel and cast iron rods without a problem as well.

Would you recommend this welder for a beginner? If not, what welder would you recommend for welding square steel tubing, no aluminum.
@1rustytree Жыл бұрын
I would, it does MIG( gas)/wire feed (flux core no gas) and DC arc , and the controls on it kind of self adjust so to speak without getting into a long explanation. Read up on them for sure but I am happy with mine! Thanks for watching Patrick, Happy New Year!
@patricklacson Жыл бұрын
@@1rustytree Thank you! For steel square tubing would you recommend DC arc (110v)?
@1rustytree Жыл бұрын
@@patricklacson DC is a lot smoother IMO than AC. I like DC arc better than AC but I started and used my AC machine a lot. I have always had a 220/240 50 A outlet for welding but a lot of people are using the 120v welders you just have to know the limitations of the machine at 120v.

Considering that your base metal is 30-50ksi 60xx rod is more than adequate

So the Tooliom is really a 160 amp welder… that’s disappointing. Anyway, thank you for the video.

I tested my Amico and it came out about the same when I looked at my Lincoln. it was almost right on the money. Thanks for watching.

@@1rustytree Good to know. I have the Tooliom getting delivered today and I just ordered a clamp meter. If I get similar results with the Tooliom, I’ll have to weigh my options as I really don’t like deceptive marketing on these kinds of things and a 40 AMP discrepancy is substantial. Anyway, again, thank you for the video.

@@teddysurf sounds good! I do like the welder all things considered, I never had a problem with not enough amps with what I do! Good luck with the new welder!
