I ordered a lestovka from Saint Elizabeth Convent, just some days before new year's eve. I can't wait to receive it from the mail. Thanks for the info on that one. Please pray for me. Peace and blessings from Santiago de Chile..

There is also the Franciscan Crown Rosary which has 7 decades instead of the usual 5. Also, after the last decade, two additional Hail Mary’s are prayed to bring the total number of Hail Mary’s to 72. It’s is believed that Mary lived to be 72 years old. Finally, the Crown ends with an additional Our Father and Hail Mary for the intentions of the Pope.

I remember reading a story about a mans father who was a minister in the Appalachian mountains during the Great Depression. He would go deep in the woods to a great big rock to pray and he had two small piles of pebbles on it representing each person in his congregation. One pile was his saved pile and one was his sinners pile. He would pray all night and move certain pebbles back and forth depending on which pile that parishioner was in that day.
@OrthodoxReview

Interesting... odd that there where two piles. We are all sinners.

@@OrthodoxReview I'm assuming from the context that this would have been something like I experienced growing up among evangelical fundamentalists in the Deep South, many of whom had been children or young adults during the Depression era. A "sinner" would be someone who'd left the church, whether short-term, long-term, or permanently (at least as far as anyone knew). For short-term, imagine the congregation is composed of the believers in a small, tightly-knit, relatively isolated rural community. It becomes known that Sister Sarah's husband, Bro. Billy Bob, was in town on Saturday night, drinking whiskey, gambling, fighting, and carousing in general. Billy Bob is unrepentant, hasn't been back in church service for 2 solid weeks. Billy Bob would have been among the "sinners" pile, in this scenario, Pastor praying for his repentance and restoration. However, BB might even have been in church the very next morning after his night on the town, shame-faced and hung over, aware that everyone knew what had happened, but too prideful to repent. Again, sinner's pile, etc. Anyway, that's my take on what was likely behind it, anyway, according to my own experiences growing up with some very old-timey backwoods church folk. They'd have recognized of course that all have sinned and fallen short, but there was a distinction made between Christians who were actively "livin' right", and those who were "backslid".

Another recommendation for its use in the here and now 😉😷🕯🙏☦!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Well, when Saint Sophrony set up the monastery of Saint John the Baptist Monastery in Essex England, due to the various languages of the European monastics that came with him, he decided that they would all say the Jesus Prayer together for hours on end, in place of other formal prayers, and this practice is continued there to this day. My bishop Basil Essay was tonsured there and has spoken about the prominence of the Jesus Prayer. A word of advice: the name of Jesus is a two edged sword, it cuts both ways.

I learned to make ranger beads from paracord. I think the knot I made is called a celtic knot. Then I added a cross pendent. I wanted to put a skull 💀 bead to separate every 10 beads. I will probably make a 50 bead in total. Would this also be appropriate to use as my prayer rope for Orthodoxy? I have heard in Orthodoxy that skulls are a reminder of our mortality and also the place of our Lord was crucified Golgotha the place of the skull.

@@danielverhulst1378sorry no one answered but the early church definitely asked for the intercessions of saints. Not only that we even have icons of Mary and other saints dating to the 2nd and 3rd century sadly a lot of the first century icons are lost or destroyed. Anyways the holy father certainly did! Also look no further to Luke.

Remind you of our mortality. Plus Jesus our Lord was crucified at a place called Golgotha. Golgotha literally means “the place of the skull” 💀. You will see skull imagery in Orthodoxy. Also the practice of saving relics from monks or Saints. Their skulls are usually saved.

Prayer ropes are suppsed to not,be messed around with, when a monk gets one a special prayer rituals is done. Or so they said somewhere. A material aid is not goong to help us reach higher levels of prayer read Ignatius Brianchaninovs On the Prayer of Jesus. I have the audio book of that if you are interested. So much to understand about the Jesus Prayer and prayer in general that its just mind numbing. God bless and thanks for the labor of love in making this video.
