Sometimes I find the liquid mask hard to use for fine areas or if you didn't get good initial coverage because adding more usually pulls up the first coat. One alternative I use for masking is Elmer's school glue. I added some to a couple of squeeze dropper bottles and mixed in a few drops of water soluble food coloring so it shows up better against contrasting base colors (I have an orange, a green, and a blueish one). The viscosity is really good, you can add more on top of dried areas, and it peels right off when it's dry or you can use water if you need to.

That glue trick is really genius. I use .... (can't remember the brand) liquid mask for R/C bodies. It runs through an Airbrush very easily. It really needs to be clear cause of the way (reverse) you paint the bodies.

Looks like all the Pace booths use the same size filter. I was just complaining about what a pain it is getting new filters for it all the time. This is definitely a good idea.
@OldChief

Two comments: 1. I think those clips that came with the grids on your filter hack segment are meant to be twisted in place. After you fit them on simply twist the two balls on the ends so they wrap the ends around each other. Sorry if this has been mentioned-- just saw this video and don't have time to read all the comments. 2. From an earlier video you recommended a cat scratch board to hold parts after painting by using alligator clips on dowels. I've set mine up as you suggested and it's a great idea! Instead of buying dowels at the hardware store, I used bamboo skewers from the super market. Cheaper and available in several useful lengths. Hope this helps!
@Syclone0044

I bought a cheap kit with bamboo skewers and alligator clips but I can’t figure out how to assemble them??? I tried crimping the alligator clips ends where a copper wire normally goes but it just loosens up and falls off and is such a nuisance. What am I doing wrong?
@OldChief
@OldChief 8 ай бұрын
@@Syclone0044, I just crimped them on real tight. Don't know why yours came off unless they just weren't tight enough. You could try saturating the tip of the skewer with cyanoacrylate super glue just before you crimp it. Then really crimp it down HARD.

Thank you so much for the review of the Brush Dragon and the Easy-Driver. I've been 3D printing non-stop for 2 days to keep up with orders. I 3d print almost every day, including designing my own 3d models. depending on how you support and orient your model, there may be no supports needed and therefore no "flash". mind you, I do resin printing since it has the high level of detail required for scale modeling, compared to fdm printing, which does end up with supports that are much more like flash.

Hey, it might be bit silly But I'm using alot of filters for a cigarette, like for rollies. It's 1 dollar for a 120 of them, they clean, tight, and absorb lots of moisture and liquid, if you need to stow some tools, they kinda act like a gel balls Wiping blades or needle with it make it less expensive than magic eraser, or using on paint table for many uses I mean, it's one of those cheap tools nice to have on a bench Thanks

I don’t know if this would be applicable with plastic/models, but I’m a foamsmith and I have learned from another maker than table mustard makes a great paint mask. I use it for battle damage, putting down my silver/ metals base, then mask the scratches/ nicks etc with the mustard then paint my top coat. Mustard rubs right out leaving the scarred “metal” below. Dirt cheap and on hand, lol. ( I doubt this will work for highly detailed spaces, but worth a test). Love the channel, you have really stepped up my paint game!!

Very nice tools and stuff again!👌🏻😎 The Fineline liquid mask with needle applicator is great, as it prevents the liquid in the bottle from drying out too quickly. I gues I'll have to find one over here in Germany.😀 These white clips are twist clips (just twist them once). They ars also used for tying plants to thin rods or tying cables together...😉 Gaahleri is working on a fan cap - very good news, I was hoping they would do that! However, I also was hoping it would come with this new airbrush, so now that will cost a lot of extra money (fan caps aren't cheap, I know...).

The liquid mask with the needle applicator is a great idea. I use the Mr Hobby liquid mask and it works well but really difficult to remove from a brush after use. Also you can use Liquid Latex available from art supply and make up artist places. Costs around $7A for a 45ml jar or $15A for a 200 ml jar so much cheaper. Thanks for all the great info Robert

Try using a silicone brush. I think they're also sold as sculpting tools or something along those lines, I forget. It's basically a brush, but instead of bristles you have a soft(ish) tip made of silicone that that you can just pull the mask off of when it's dry.

Avanti is great just I would upgrade the airbrush it’s self it’s good for majority of kits but there’s certain areas where it shows it lacking like for primer/clear it just doesn’t throw enough paint out if you get real into it get a .5mm for primer/clear usually for clear I got to do 3-4 coats which is a lot of time spent lol just my 2 cents

Nice suggestions. Those fineliners are just knock-offs of the Steadtler Triplus fineliners. You get in sets up to 36 colours. The liquid masking fluid are made my many art supply manufacturers. Very popular with watercolour artists. For the finest of fine lines, you can use an old fashion droughting ruling pen. Those ends of those filter clips actually hook around each other to get a proper fitment. The airbrush looks awesome especially with a fan cap.

I've used that SMS V/Line Orange for my General Lee build. It's a pretty good match for the actual colour (even though nobody really nows what that is). I use SMS paints almost exclusively, apart from a few Tamiya lacquers that I use for hand painting. The SMS scraper is great. I'm still using the original blade that came with the handle. I've had it for nearly a year. I still use a blade for some bits, but the scraper gets rid of almost everything. The coloured glue seems like a great idea. I occasionally use the Humbrol masking fluid. As someone else mentioned, it can be a pain when the first bit you put on has almost dried and you put some more on, but the original bit lifts off. I use a toothpick to work it into the edges. If I use a brush it just gums up really quickly and is very hard to clean out.

I wish my Paasche booth had a single filter insert but it's two small ones *sigh* Because of that I had to come up with my own hack which was to cut two cat scratching pads to fit into the opening over the thin filter material. That way the cat scratcher catches a good portion of the particles and I can just knock most of it off when switching the back padding material out.

Love your work i've found your channel when researching chrome paints and kind of been hooked ever since to learn more about airbrushes in general but now I'm having somewhat of a dilemma and thinking this is the right place to ask the question. This upcoming airbrush with a fancap or the procon boy 290? i am starting up a side gig of 3d printing game fan art in resin and a good airbrush seems to go a long way. Until now i was using a no name one from amazon witch i manage to bend the 0.7needel a bit , lost the cap seal and the 0.5 needle cap so there is definitely time for an upgrade. So far my opinion is that the procon boy 290 would help more for priming and clear coating with the fix 0.5 needle however from what ive been able to find this swallowtail 0.7 seems to create quite the fan from a far away but also give you the option of more fine details up-close ? also hearing this might come with a fan cap kind tips the scale in its favor. I guess I need some more diverse opinions before jumping on any one of them.

Nice tools and tips! I do something similar for my booth. I have two frames that fit together with one frame having carpenter's mesh, then I trap the outer edge of the mat between the two frames and screw them together. With your set up you might be able to use just one grid panel and some zip ties going through the mat in some spots around the edge just to hold it in place. The airbrush looks awesome and I can't wait to see the full review. It looks like one that will be some competition for the Grex and the GSI Creos.
