Today we look at something that makes us in the gun and gear community our own worst enemy. Our reliance on buying tools over building skills.

I was told for the past 10 years that PSA products were unreliable garbage. I put together 9 PSA kits for myself ,family and friends. We have all been getting together and shooting once a month for the last couple years and have had no issues with these rifles whatsoever. I used the savings to buy reloading components for them. To me this was the most practical way to get everybody armed and be able to afford to put rounds down range.

Thats really what they're good for and thier mission arm as many as possible. If you never hit the limit of a psa good on ya. I still don't see the point in putting 3k worth of stuff on a 500 rifle

I drop around 9k a year...it gets expensive with 308. I started making reviews and recordings because i noticed how many people will review a gun after a whole 200 rounds. I wont even talk about a rifle until i have at least a few thousand rounds on it.

Using the light on the firearm to identify a threat in most States is considered brandishing a firearm. If you point it at what is found to be a non threat. You can be charged criminally. I use it only as a secondary source if light for this reason.

I love your rants they are both informative and entertaining. Regarding flashlights I have a surefire stiletto pro as my main flashlight I carry on me at all times. I also carry a sig p320 m18 with a tlr 7a. The surefire stiletto is an amazing light when my 5 yr old daughter drops her toy under the seat and its dark our but it also has good lumens if something makes a noise near me and I want to identify it. The tlr7a on my sig is rarely used its mainly on their as a home defense set up.

as a medically retired veteran and 54 years old, I guess I'm old school. I still clear my house for bumps in the night, with a handheld flashlight and a 38 special. while I have other guns, I still prefer my wheelgun with a grip laser. but, I 100% agree with what you said. I prefer to K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid) especially in the middle of the night.

Appreciate the "salty" delivery, it comes across as more honest. Address physical fitness! A fatbody is an anchor, an albatros around a groups neck. The best gear and "training" mean absolutely nothing if a man can't run with his gear. Why is it that my Overlords at Parris Island broke me physically and mentally first? Because physical and mental conditioning is vastly more important than gear. VASTLY MORE IMPORTANT! As a cop you know that an altercation often result in a foot chase. A light, rifle, sidearm and gear mean jackshit if a man is out of breath before the fight begins. On deployments we spent much more time moving than engaging. Think you're gonna be the "guy on the hill"? You'll be a target that's easy to hit! If a man can't run 3 miles at minimum he's of no use to a "group". If a man can't carry his own body weight on his back, he's of no use. At 54 I can still pass my Marine CFT because I never allowed myself to become a 250 pound sack of shit. I can and will run circles around most men in their 20's. That's not because I'm awesome, its because they're pathetic! Stop stressing damn gear and get off that ass!

I luckily got over the "new thing" syndrome after a few years. I remember the FIRST TIME I saw key-mod. Chris Costa was holding a la rue or BCM or something with a 15" rail going all the way out to the end of that barrel on a SWEET golden FDE colored rifle. Right before that trip to the store when I saw that magazine cover my M4 quad rail on my Bushmaster that I had about 8000 rounds through was the pride of my collection. I had that and a WASR and a smith m and p. I ran ALL 3 of those guns very effectively and had compliments from vets and local cops. All of a sudden however---- I felt that feeling. I think it may have been the first time it was that strong. I wanted THAT rifle. I was not cool anymore- and it came on strong. That little boy before Christmas feeling. Hell- I didn't even have the internet yet. That magazine article spun me up way more than it should have.....to be honest, I think that was the first time I put tools before talent. I put together my own rifle (first home build) a few months later and it was very similar, but I soon realized other than a little accuracy gain at 100 Yards and a better grip on the gun, I had not become much better. A free float gun with an extended hand guard? YES-YES I did gain performance. It was NOT however what I hyped myself up to think it would be. I should have just chopped my sight block, bought a hand guard and a better trigger. Lessons are important as long as they are remembered.......LOL.

About the comment made on WC show and pistol lights. That’s the craziest comment I’ve ever heard. I work in auto manufacturing, I love deer hunting with guns and bows. I love defense weapons and shooting at home or a range. At 56 years old I’ve heard things go bump in the night more than once. When that happens I’ve got to see where I’m going and what made the bump. Used to be a handheld, now the wife and I have a TLR8 on our bedroom pistol. We have a small home and the light is more than sufficient, I chose the 8 with a laser because “Why Not.” As for the man asking when was the last time I needed it, just a few months ago it kept me from shooting my dad who lives next door. We turn our phones off at night because people no longer respect sleep times, and dad had came and raised the garage door and was at the door to tell us our cars lights were on and he didn’t want us to be late for work due to a dead battery. I heard the door going up, I saw the light illuminating through the house, grabbed the gun came down the hall and the garage light had done went out, but my weapon mounted light showed me dad at the door. And NO I wasn’t pointing it at him, the flood is bright enough with our light colored walls that low ready and high ready lights up the place.

@@rigid73able yep I know. But I’m gonna verify my target. I had my suspicions about the door being raised since ya gotta know the code. So between my four grown and gone children and my parents I knew there was a possibility. And if it was a bad guy with a gun he’d been blinded. Lol. Dad asked me what in the world kind of light is that

Great rant. Thanks for actually caring about function and purposeful usage over something pretty or the latest hotness. You are absolutely correct. If one cannot use an item to its fullest extent, why on earth would someone need the same said item that does so much more that one cannot use. Skills are generally more important than tools. Once you exceed the capabilities of your tool, you will know it, and at that point it makes sense to upgrade your tool. 98% of people out there do not need a rifle better than what PSA provides at a fraction of the cost. Most people are gonna let that DD rifle rust up in a closet. The insanity of it all. 🤣

We are indeed our own worst enemy. I know I have tried to buy capability as a shortcut, but in the end nothing replaces hard won experience. However having said that if you are looking to buy something, that you can use, I think in a lot of cases it is better to buy quality in most circumstances. That is where the experience comes in by knowing what is good enough vs. junk vs. overpriced overhyped stuff that you will never be able to use the capability of, kind of like having an IR laser and no NODS. Thank you Uncle Freedom, another great video.

You get this in almost any hobby, sport, profession, whatever. If there's any amount of fresh air and testosterone involved it seems to get worse. I went through a panic stage when I first started watching YT and bought some unnecessary stuff but personal preference and reality eventually kicked in. If I see something that would be a marked improvement on something I already use then there's no reason not to think about it and if you are still thinking about it when the show and tell crowd have moved on, maybe. It's sometimes cheaper then too.

That's they key, we have to be good stewards of the 2nd amendment. I am a firm believer in having good gear but I'm mot a fan of having good gear just have to have it When you can invest in your skills instead. I'm not a fan of trying to find a hardware(gear) solution to a software(skills) problem

When people talk smack to me/give me unsolicited advice about my choice in pistols I can only tell them - "it fits my hand really well, the controls are ambi and I am left handed, my natural aim point when I hold it is spot on, and without fail it goes bang when I pull the trigger" .... I don't know why people have to be so judgemental about it - I have tried the one you crow about as being the best and it just doesn't fit my hand/grip as well which makes it harder for me to use so why, when I have the choice, bother ?

I agree with allot of what they said in the Wilson combat video but disagree with the presentation. The appendix carry was a weird one. There is nothing wrong with getting the latest and greatest/gucci gear. Hey, that shit is neat and cool. Do you need it? Probably not. Small example: you can get a gun belt that is weight rated. You will pay more for the cool high speed belt but do you "need" it? Are you riding around in a helicopters and do you need to clip into it? Probably not (and if you do props to you). Once you find gear you like run it until it needs to be replaced. Dont get into the rampant consumerism. Get what you need/want and use it. When it needs to be replaced then maybe upgrade. Odds are that will take at least months if not years of use. Your wallet will thank you.
