I’m fortunate enough to to have a studio, but this was so wonderful! You gave me some ideas about how to make my studio more useable. I love the tools in the cart and the idea of attacking the flex shaft to the cart. My stationary flex shaft doesn’t work for me, but the cart flex shaft is brilliant!

To use the clamp without messing up the table just pull your protective plate out a little and clamp to just that.

Thank you for the great video! I've read that "negative air pressure"/suction is strongly recommended when soldering or using abrasives. Do you find that just being near an open window provides sufficient ventilation? Thanks again.
@joesilvera8853
@joesilvera8853 8 ай бұрын
Great question! For a beginner setup using butane torches and infrequent soldering, it's okay to start with simple ventilation, like an open window. It can be easily upgraded with an exhaust fan that connects with ducting to over your soldering space. Or a dedicated bench fume extractor. Just in case, please note that a fume extractor is for gases, and a dust collector (different) collects dust, like from polishing. Thanks for watching!

Hello! Thank you for a very useful video! I'm a complete beginner, just about to buy my first crockpot....I was just wondering if the metal (I guess aluminium) inside the crock pot won't turn everything pink? (I'm having trouble finding a cheap one with an inner ceramics bowl) Many thanks!
@SilveraJewelrySchool
@SilveraJewelrySchool Жыл бұрын
Hi! I wouldn't use an aluminum pot for your pickle. I recommend one with a ceramic interior. A 1 quart crockpot is a good size. You can often find them used in a thrift shop, or maybe even a friend or family member who has one they don't need. I've found them on Amazon for under $20. Good luck and thanks for watching!

How do you protect your home/lungs from the metal dust that is created when polishing with a dremel?
@SilveraJewelrySchool
@SilveraJewelrySchool 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. Wear a N95 mask rated for sanding. And use safer abrasives. I use silica free water soluble polishing compounds and choose low dust bits like sanding disks to minimize health hazards. Luxi brand polishing compounds have been a game changer for me and my lungs. And my studio is clean now, too. Thanks!

Citrus Pickle is Pickle juice from the grocery store, where you buy jars of pickles? Can you use pickle juice from that?
@SilveraJewelrySchool
@SilveraJewelrySchool 3 жыл бұрын
It would be funny if it was, but it isn't. :^) Citric pickle is citric acid and water. The word pickle is used in jewelry to refer to the cleaning solution we use after soldering. The first pickle solution was probably vinegar and salt (which still works), which is like what you use to pickle food. Citric acid is also used for food preservation. Both are home friendly alternatives to more acidic professional pickle solutions, like Sparex. Let's put it this way, a handy equivalent to Sparex #2 pickle mix is a 10% solution of sulfuric acid, or PH Down mix for a hot tub.

How come your pickle is just in a dish and not in a pot? Doesn't it need to be warmed?
@SilveraJewelrySchool
@SilveraJewelrySchool Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm demonstrating in this video a minimum set up for making jewelry at home, without a lot of equipment. The pickle in the bowl is warmed up as you go. Pickle will work cold, too. It just takes longer. The best way to heat a pickle solution and keep it hot is to use a small 1 quart crockpot or a pickle pot (available from jewelry suppliers). Thanks for watching!
