Toontrack EzBass vs Ample Sound Bass

Күн бұрынIn this video you can see a comparison of six vsti bass guitars from Toontrack and Ample Sound.
First pair of Modern Style:
Ezbass Modern (based on Alembic Essence bass) vs Ample Metal Ray 5 (based on Music Man Stingray 5 bass)
Second pair of Jazz Bass Style (based on Fender Jazz Bass):
Ezbass Vintage vs Ample J Bass
Third pair of Precision style (based on Fender Precision Bass):
Ezbass Classic Rock vs Ample P Bass
For the purity of the experiment, I used pick libraries in all bass guitars.
All FXs in VSTi is disabled.
In the first part of the video, the raw audio is presented (only minor processing by the Master aimed at increasing the volume). In the second part of the video, the bass guitar is processed with a vst preamp Darkglass from Neural DSP and drums from Toontrack are added.

The problem with Ezbass is that you can't force string. They have sampled only one fret for each note like a piano. So even if we could select the string, the tone should be exactly the same. So for the first string, only the first 4 frets are available, 7 frets for the 2nd string, 7 frets for the 3rd, 11 frets for the 4th and 5th string + the open strings and they added 2 notes below the low B. So to be efficient, they should have to double the quantity of samples. So even if it covers 3 octaves and a half like all bass plugins, there’s 45 differents “sounds or tones” for 45 notes (5 strings bass) instead of 84 tones for 41 notes when all the frets are sampled on a 4 strings bass. They prefered to sample the notes played with different fingers instead. Other than that, the plugin is great!! Is it the most realistic? Hum I'm not a bass player so it's hard for me to tell, they all sounds good and they sound better when well played and with a very good amp plugin.

EzBass is more clear, but sounds so virtual, Ample is more Noisy but sounds more real

Cool shootout. For modern sounds I prefer the Ezbass Modern, for J-bass sounds I prefer the Ample Sound J-Bass and for P-bass sounds I prefer the Ezbass Classic Rock. I don't own Ez Bass yet but, it may be the next plugin I buy, if I don't get a real bass.

I love ez bass, but I’m also gonna jump into the ample sound world for guitar and bass. The riffer feature seems awesome! I personally like the ample j and yin yang basses, and many of their guitars, electric and acoustic.

My takeaway is EzBass wins HOWEVER, the Ample Jazz Bass is a very worthy competitor and the best of the Ample bunch...

I have problem with ezbass in modern mode FL studio 20 that can't open it..I already update 1.0.8... But in standalone modern mode can used...pls why

Friend, I don't know how to help you. I haven't used FL since version 5. now my DAW is Reaper and it works great 🤷♂️

FL studio have many issues with VST, try changing ur vst folder

The question is not really simple. Both there and there are pros and cons. For example Ample reads gtp, which is very handy for practice. At the same time, ezbass can create bass lines. The sound of Ample is more realistic in intonation (hammer, pull, slide, band ...). Ezbass has a booming bottom. My favorites are Ezbass Modern, Ample MetalRay and Ample P-bass. The final choice must be made in the mix.

They all sound more like a keyboard synth to me not like any real bass i ever played and i owned many over the years.

It's because it's hard quantized, you can get more realistic sounds when you humanize the midi, it's actually surprising how good it can be if done right.
