The Caspian Jazz and Blues Festival was founded in 2002 and ran through 2005 producing the first international appearances in Azerbaijan by headline jazz artists free of charge. This video is one of many live performances recorded by Lider TV at the inaugural festival in 2002. The festival featured an equal presentation of international and Azeri artists over 4 days of events free to the public thanks to the generosity of the U.S. Embassy and the international business community. In addition, the festival featured several days of jazz education by American and European artists in Baku's leading music schools culminating in the Baku Youth Big Band. My favorite Chromatic Harmonica player is now gone... I am so saddened.... He was my friend from the l980's & I gave him a rose as a token of my appreciation of his beautiful music... I too will play my Chromatic Harmonica in honor of Toots... Velva Hot Lips on Harmonica 8-22-16

Toots had the genius, passion & soul to climb inside his harmonica and become one with his instrument (and the music he was playing which was So Evident throughout his library of Beautiful Ballads with many great musicians throughout the world, I had the good pleasure of catching him some years ago at Catalina's Jazz Supper Club in Hollywood Ca, An Indelible Evening, So Nice!!

the harmony of the harmonica. toots does it by both expelling and inhaling from the instrument. it ain't easy and makes it one of the simple but great instruments. you must hear the music and then sing along but through your harmonica. it is perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can give a child.

..actually Lennon saw Toots playing the Rickenbacher on tour in Hamburg in 1960 and so he decided he had to have one !

Dear Jean Toots: You are wonderful on haarmonica and even more so in designing the Toots hard bopper. Superb instrument (but only in key C). Wish Hohner brings out this model in other keys too.
